Another Republican Won't Seek Re-Election This Year

The list of House Republicans choosing not to seek re-election in 2018 is lengthy and now Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Ed Royce can be added to make it longer.

The Congressman released a lengthy statement Monday evening explaining his decision to step away from Washington.

“In this final year of my Foreign Affairs Committee chairmanship, I want to focus fully on the urgent threats facing our nation, including: the brutal, corrupt and dangerous regimes in Pyongyang and Tehran, Vladimir Putin’s continued efforts to weaponize information to fracture western democracies, and growing terrorist threats in Africa and Central Asia. With this in mind, and with the support of my wife Marie, I have decided not to seek reelection in November," Royce said. “I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the people of the 39th District for entrusting me with the responsibility to represent them. Our district is blessed to be diverse, and I’ve been successful in part because of my great staff and the relationships we’ve built with families, businesses and leaders in each of our communities. We’ve personally helped countless Southern Californians."

“Orange County will always be home to Marie and me, and we look forward to being with all our friends at Lunar New Years, Korean American Days, Fourth of Julys and many other community events for years to come,” he continued.

Sixteen Republicans and seven Democrats have announced their resignations ahead of the midterms. Some are leaving after accusations of sexual misconduct (Blake Farenthold, for example), while others are in tough districts that Democrat Hillary Clinton won in the most recent presidential election.

There’s been rumors of 30-40 of these douches retiring/resigning in the month of January, so maybe this is just a continuation of the draining of the swamp. Memo to Trump...term limits rock!!!

Every time we get a spate of politicians not seeking re-election, I always wonder if they see an “inevitable” the near future and don’t want to be in office when it happens.

I think that Obama and Hillary did some really awful, really criminal things in Libya.

They played some of the Republicans.

I think the Republicans are getting out of the way so there’s no,

“Well, the Republicans should be in trouble, too!”

When it hits the fan.

Royce had a 96% conservative rating by acu. That doesn’t tell us everything but it tells us a lot.

Another sexual predator sneaking out of town?

Where is that list of members of Congress involved in settlements? The count was 260, wasn't it? And what about others that used office funds, maybe even campaign funds to make settlements? Will that ever see sunshine?

I am not familiar with Rep. Royce but have seen his name in the news on occasion. Unfortunately, nothing in CA politics interests me any more.

There’s always a turnaround, but what is the average, and why are we only reading about Republican’s retiring, or quitting when certainly there are as have always been Democrats retiring, or quitting as well?

IF we are to keep this union intact, and functional under the guidance of the laws created by the founders the Democrats cannot win back the leadership of this nation. It is the job of the Republican party amongst other things to ensure no Democrat rule over this nation ever again. Their interests are not American. Their interests are Democrat Party, their power, their rule.

It would be interesting to see a list of possible liberal pickups in the House plus those the GOP thinks it might gain. One seat in NH is always a possible GOP gain for instance.

How the hell does one “weaponize information” in the Information Age?

That’s a bizarre characterization, and one I hop is not the mind-set of our “rulers”.

Alas, I’m convinced that it is.

Some information is so dangerous, so volatile, that it’s mere exposure to “the masses” is a WMD.

“Unfortunately, nothing in CA politics interests me any more.”

Well try this! Royce is a GOP House Member. If his seat goes to a RAT, it’s one less seat in the margin that keeps the GOP in control of that body. So it should “interest” you.

First, Republicans in California need to team up with ALL California minor political parties and, actually, work together for more, fairer elections. Then, these political parties, combined, need to do all that they can do to put an end to the present California rule where, only, the highest two “vote getters” get to compete, in each and every general election, even if the final two candidates belong to the same political party! The California Democrats will, always, have an unfair political advantage, for as long as this present law remains in place!

CA is a solid blue state that gets bluer everyday. Hillary won CA by 4.3 million votes.

Sounds like he believes in the “blue wave”. Better the wusses clear out. Ain’t gonna be no blue wave, but the Dems will act as if it’s real, and when things get nasty, you can’t have people who will fold guarding your flanks.

If the wall isn’t built, and soon, you can watch Texas turn blue in the next 5 years if not sooner.

If that happens, it’s GAME OVER.
