GOP presidential primary candidate Nikki Haley on Friday claimed that Democrats are on the path to retiring President Biden as a candidate for reelection. “I have long said the first party to retire its 80-year-old candidate will win the White House. Democrats appear on their way to doing just that,” Haley said in a statement on the recent release of a special counsel report on Biden’s retention of classified documents posted to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “[Former President Trump] runs about even with the enfeebled Biden; he would get crushed by a Democrat with a pulse.” The...

Sen. Joe Manchin announced Thursday that he wil not vie for re-election next year, making Republicans the favorites to pick up another seat in the upper chamber of Congress. Manchin (D-WV), a perennial thorn in the side of the Biden administration, would have likely faced a fierce battle against popular Republican Gov. Jim Justice had he decided to run. “I’ve made one of the toughest decisions of my life and decided that I will not be running for reelection to the United States Senate,” Manchin declared in a video posted to X. The 76-year-old senator was an increasingly isolated Democrat...
  • National Guard struggles as troops leave at faster pace

Soldiers are leaving the Army National Guard at a faster rate than they are enlisting, fueling concerns that in the coming years units around the country may not meet military requirements for overseas and other deployments. For individual states, which rely on their Guard members for a wide range of missions, it means some are falling short of their troop totals this year, while others may fare better. But the losses comes as many are facing an active hurricane season, fires in the West and continued demand for units overseas, including combat tours in Syria and training missions in Europe...

Self-serving as usual, Congress long-a-go put a provision in the tax code whereby upon "retirement", a candidate can transfer all unused campaign funds into a non-profit organization. And I am sure every Democrat who is facing defeat in the upcoming midterms, is busy setting up a self-controlled non-profit into which all of his or her campaign funds will be transferred TAX-FREE!!!!! For example, when Bob Dole retired, he had over $40 million in campaign funds...what a treasure chest for retirement!!!!
  • Kevin McCarthy predicts more Democrats retiring ahead of 2022

    NY Post ^ | 10/19/2021 | Callie Patteson
Republican House leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy believes there will be more retirements among Democrats leading up to the midterm elections in 2022, as they grapple with the likely possibility of losing their majorities in the next term. “Once you get past Thanksgiving and members go home, and they’re Democrats and they’ve been challenged before and they’re going to get beat up, Congress is not that great,” the Republican from California told Fox News. McCarthy’s prediction comes as two long-serving Democrats in the House, Reps. David Price (D-NC) and Mike Doyle (D-Penn.) announced their decision not to run for reelection in...

Manhattan’s district attorney, Cyrus Vance Jr, the veteran prosecutor overseeing a criminal investigation into the former US president, Donald Trump, announced on Friday that he intends to retire instead of seeking re-election, opting against a primary fight with progressive candidates who say he is a relic and not a reformer. Vance made the announcement in a memo to staffers, ending months of speculation about his future and signaling it is likely to be a brand-new DA who sees the Trump case through, although Vance could still make a decision about charges before his term expires at the end of the...

I am in mourning. Although I should be retiring "high on the hog," so to speak, my heart breaks for students who have no clue and have been spoon-fed so much that they do not know basic multiplicaiton facts, choose not tp follow rules, and cannot follow simple directions. It's as though they expect all to be given to them. And if they do not get their way, I am to blame.

Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch is backtracking after saying that he wasn’t concerned that prosecutors implicated President Donald Trump in a crime. The Republican in a statement said he spoke “imprudently” in a CNN interview Tuesday. During the interview, he dismissed federal prosecutors who said Trump directed his personal lawyer Michael Cohen to make hush money payments. Hatch said Democrats will do anything to hurt Trump. …

  • No. 3 Official at the Justice Department Is Stepping Down (After only 9 months)

WASHINGTON — Rachel L. Brand, the No. 3 official at the Justice Department, plans to step down after nine months on the job as the country’s top law enforcement agency has been under attack by President Trump, according to two people briefed on her decision. Ms. Brand’s profile had risen in part because she is next in the line of succession behind the deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, who is overseeing the special counsel’s inquiry into Russian influence in the 2016 election. Mr. Trump, who has called the investigation a witch hunt, has considered firing Mr. Rosenstein. Such a...

The list of House Republicans choosing not to seek re-election in 2018 is lengthy and now Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Ed Royce can be added to make it longer. The Congressman released a lengthy statement Monday evening explaining his decision to step away from Washington. “In this final year of my Foreign Affairs Committee chairmanship, I want to focus fully on the urgent threats facing our nation, including: the brutal, corrupt and dangerous regimes in Pyongyang and Tehran, Vladimir Putin’s continued efforts to weaponize information to fracture western democracies, and growing terrorist threats in Africa and Central...

Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), who has served in Congress longer than any woman in history, will announce at a news conference Monday that she is retiring from the Senate after five terms in office, three people familiar with her plans said. Mikulski, 78, was the first woman to chair the powerful Appropriations Committe, a post she had to give up this year when the Democrats lost control of the Senate. A social worker turned politician, she has been a forceful presence on many pieces of legislation, passionately liberal on certain issues but also committed to working closely with Republicans.

A tea party group said they’re happy Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was demoted with the wave of Republican elects Tuesday evening — but they’re not stopping there. Next up, the Tea Party Express says — oust him. The group is holding a “unity press conference” Thursday at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas to outline its plans for the 2016 election. “We fired him last night as Senate majority leader, now our focus is on retiring him once and for all,” Tea Party Express executive director Taylor Budowich told The Hill. “That’s what the Tea Party’s focus is going...

The retirement of two of Nancy Pelosi's closest confidants is raising questions about whether the House Democratic leader's reign could be nearing an end. The pending departures of Reps. George Miller and Henry Waxman mean Pelosi will have to do without her most trusted lieutenants if she decides to run again as Democratic leader. The two fellow California Democrats helped engineer the major achievements of her speakership on healthcare and climate change, and could be counted on during good times and bad. One former Democratic leadership aide described the loss as “a substantial changing of the guard” – a transition...

State Sen. Dale Schultz, a moderate Republican who voted with Democrats on occasion, has announced he will not run for re-election this year. In an extensive interview with WISC-TV (Channel 3000), Schultz, a Republican from Richland Center, said the decision came after "listening to my constituents, and a lot of contemplation and thought with my wife and my family, that I'm not going to stand for re-election this year." If Schultz had run for re-election, he would have faced state Rep. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) in a primary election.Ernie Wittwer, former state transportation budget director, is running for the seat...

For most of his presidency, President Obama has been focused on the economic short run — which makes sense, given that he took office in the midst of the biggest recession since the 1930s. With his big economic speech today, he’s shifting to the long-run, talking about the structural changes he thinks the economy needs to see for the U.S. to prosper going forward. But anyone who thinks that the short-run battle is over should take a look at a new report by Daniel Alpert over at the Century Foundation. Alpert notes that while the headline unemployment number is well...
