Funny thing is, there are laws that say you have to tell employees within a certain timeframe that their job is going away.
Don’t know off the top of my head if it is national or just here where I am, but there might be some issue there..
The WARN Act of 1988

It’s called the WARN act. Employees have to be told 90 days out. Been through it. Don’t know how they are getting around it.

NY has such a law I believe
Many of these are right-to-work states, so no notice necessary. Besides, I bet they got a few weeks severance. Better, as others write, to be abrupt than have employees on site knowing their jobs are gone, working last days—why risk the results that might cause?
You dont have to let them stay on the job though, they just had to give him salary and benefits for two weeks.
My husband works in power plants. Every time someone was fired not laid off but fired they were told at the gate. They were escorted in to get their belongings and then escorted out. And given two weeks pay and benefits. Sometimes more. But thats because a disgruntled employee could do a lot of damage if they so desired.
