First, just because you are a military psychiatrist does not mean that you are psychologically stable. Anyone remember the actions of the psychiatrist at Ft. Hood?
Second, there is a great shortage of psychiatrists in the military and they will take anyone with the credential.
Third, because of the shortage, the pay is high. I’ve met several liberal NY psychiatrists who went to work for the military for the higher pay. When you work for the Government your costs are also much lower as you don’t need malpractice insurance or other overhead costs.
Even most of the psychologists in the military are liberal jerks who became officers due to their advanced degrees. Frequently their experience was in the Federal Prison System where they learned an adversarial relationship with inmates that they carry into the military against the soldiers.

Launch commands are then sent via coded and secure radios on a variety of modulated bands, again for security. As you might imagine, land lines do not go everywhere the commands are being sent, AND they are not as secure as telemetry. Fourth line of defense.
