Shutdown Strategy: Gov’t to work without pay - unless RATs agree to fund their paychwcks

Posted on 01/19/2018 11:26:04 AM PST by 11th_VA

In the Mulvaney presser, the strategy is to keep Gov’t open. Military, Park Rangers, etc, will work without pay - reserve funds will keep the lights on.

So Gov’t workers WON’T get free holiday.

I’m assuming the RATs will have to vote against their getting paychecks in two weeks ... is that the Vote the GOP is going to make them take ???

Doesn’t matter....They have ALWAYS gotten paid for furlough time. In fact, some were double dipping...collecting unemployment...and then not returning it when they finally got paid.

You’re missing the point - Gov’t workers have to show up for work, on the assumption the RATs will agree to pay them - no furloughs

That isn’t what they’ve done in the past but that is the way it should be. They don’t get paid unless they work and even then not until Congress approves the funding. They can stay home if they want but they won’t get paid for that time if Congress ultimately approves the funding.

They should work if they want back pay when it is over. We aren’t paying for a long vacation!! The doors are open. Go do your job and we will get you paid. Stay home and you dont!!

Yes, that’s the way I understood it. And, btw, lazy govt employees used to love shutdowns. They got time off and got paid for it later.

Not so under President Trump. They still have to go to work. Traffic in DC remains very bad. They get nothing out of it.

Ha ha ha ha...

Pay the people that are required to work - like the military. Do not pay workers who are told to go home.

There is definitely worse things than the government not eating up more taxpayer dollars.

The way I would do it:

In a government shut down, those who don’t work don’t recover pay for not working subsequently.

For those who are deemed essential and must work, either they get paid, or they get a modest—say 10%—bonus on pay that is delayed.

The first item is only fair. Nobody else gets paid for not working.

The second is also fair—if your pay is delayed there should be a bonus.

As it is now, the government employees who have to work during a shutdown are doubly screwed. They aren’t getting a paid vacation like most other government workers, their union brethern, and their pay is delayed to boot.

The real biggie, the change in policy I’d love to see, is rescinding JFK’s Executive Order which allowed unions like the SEIU in government in the first place.

Gov’t workers have to show up for work

Many of them will refuse to show up.

They think they are untouchable, and above being fired.

This is the right answer:

“If the government shuts down and you stay home, fine, but you will not be paid for those days - either forfeit pay or use vacation time!

Or, you can work those days, and when we reopen the government, you will get paid for them.”

This nonsense of closing the government and still giving all the employees pay for when they stayed home is nonsense.

There is NO JOY IN MUDVILLE TODAY, federal employees are bitterly disappointed that they will NOT be receiving yet another FREE paid (albeit delayed) vacation.

When you clock out at 5:00pm insure your desks are cleaned out and personal items have been removed.

Then,

GO HOME.

YOU ARE ALL FIRED !

If there is a shut down and ‘non-essential” workers are laid off. I hope POTUS says:”Why are we paying millions of dollars in salaries/benefits for workers who are non-essential?

Time to do some pruning - starting with 50% cut in personnel.

For these dumbo demRats to shut down the gov’t and the military to ‘protect’ illegals seems a battle they shouldn’t want to win. “How to further alienate the American people: 101”

I was caught in one those...1995 I believe. 3 week or so vacation and eventual back pay. A farce.

Oh yes they will!

Obviously, you have no clue what "reserved funds" means... It means part of the current budget that they elected not to spend for the specific purpose of dealing with a planned, deliberate government shut down.

Unless there is a Congressional investigation no one knows how long they can illegally "hold out..."

The solution to this illegal maneuver is to force all agencies to return every cent of their budget, reserved or not, by a fixed calendar date each year. Then reduce their next budget by the amount they were hiding. No exceptions.

Once upon a time, [ex] airport flight controllers thought so too!
