Paramedics called to treat Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, a life-long diabetic, was treated by paramedics for low blood sugar at her home in Washington on Friday morning but was able to go to work afterward, a court spokeswoman said.

The 63-year-old Sotomayor, one of the nine-member court’s four liberal justices, was diagnosed as a child with type 1 diabetes and has openly discussed her experience with the chronic illness in the past. She was named to the court in 2009 by Democratic former President Barack Obama.

“Justice Sotomayor experienced symptoms of low blood sugar at her home this morning. She was treated by D.C. Emergency Medical Services and is doing fine,” spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said in a statement. “She came to work, resumed her usual schedule, and will be participating in planned activities over the weekend.”

Type 1 is genetic.

Not necessarily true. I have two children with type 1 and there's not a diabetic anywhere in the family.

My brother is a biophysicist working on cancer vaccinations, meaning he knows many in the field. He tells me they're starting to believe that type 1 is actually an environmental virus.

That said, the Wise Latina should know after a lifetime with the disease how to keep her numbers in check. And she should drop the weight because that could also lead to type 2.

What’s her waste size?

For most people it's about 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 inches in diameter, I imagine she's within that range...

Chromium and vanadium. Step it down gradually for about 4-6 months. Of course, there are some dietary issues you have to address.

Does she have bone spurs?

Yep. I can't cure that. Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

But all kidding aside, I can substantially reduce the need for insulin, and as a consequence, reduce the stress on the organs; thereby extending life.

Thanks a lot.  I appreciate it.

(They do make a lot of money off of that condition/disease, don't they?   Besides all the expensive prescription drugs, places like Walmart have a pretty large section set aside just for diabetics, and most of the stuff there is not cheap either.)

Given the recent democrat fainting spells over the President’s physical exam, it seems pretty clear that the good Justice must resign due to her clear ill health.

Me, too. It was decidedly un-Christian.

You’re welcome, and best of luck. I’m well into my 50s and by every measure should have Type 2, considering my diet (i.e., I eat foods that I actually like).

But the only way I’ve ever been able to lose weight is to simply fast - up to 10 days with water only...and guess what, my blood sugar remains normal - freaks me out, but after reading that book, it makes sense. I force my body to have to deal with the stress of no food for many days at a time and thus have to process stored fat...and thus no Type 2, at least not yet.

Diabetes is a weird thing. For one thing, many times, you go into a comma and can stay there a long time before death (usually plug pulling). I can see it now, she’s in a comma and nothing will be done until the next Democratic President is elected, no matter how many years or even decades. I kid you not with this horrid disease. I wish her the best. It is one of the worst diseases to have in life.
