Abu Hamza al-Amriki’s real name is Zulfi Hoxha

Could he be related to Enver?

I’ve spent some time in Rockford and it seemed strangely devoid of good eating establishments of any kind.

There was a good Mexican place on 11th called Rebozo, that has been torn down. The downtown is worthless for eating.

The Indian House on Riverside is passable.

There's some mom and pop diners in the Loves Park area (Route 251) that are okay.

Even the Waffle House is a phony! (Apparently, the real Waffle House didn't get the trademark for Illinois)

Mary's Market is okay for light fare, and they have good coffee. Rockford was designed to be taken over by chains, food wise. If someone placed a White Castle or Krispy Kreme there, it would CLEAN UP.

The best pizza in Rockford is at the Schnuck's (formerly Logli) supermarket, NOT KIDDING.

It's almost impossible to find an Italian restaurant in New Jersey, actually owned by Italians. Most are run by Albanians from Kosovo.

That''s amazing, given the impact of Italian-Americans on New Jersey. But the situation is similar in Southern California, where many Italian eateries are run by Middle Easterners or East Asians.

I don't eat a lot of pizza, but my favorite in North Orange County can be found at Fratellino's restaurant in Brea, which is owned by an Italian family.

Do you still live there? One of my friends worked at the airport for years. We both grew up about 30 miles south of Moline.

I went there many years ago to pickup a "Drive-Away" car for Chicago. The twelve lanes of traffic and bad signage caused me to get about four-hundred cars to honk at me as I blatantly illegally crossed many lanes of traffic to make a very illegal U-Turn. On top of that, the only place to eat near the airport was an expensive diner with subpar food (though I have heard some legendary stories about the diner since). A $4.50 pathetic excuse for a tuna salad sandwich (in 1985 dollars) did NOT impress. The pickle on the side was okay. I don't regret not returning to Teterboro.

Pizza joints around me are all run by old-school Italian families.

He forgot Ahmad Khan Rahami, the son of Afghani immigrants that had a fast food chicken place in Elizabeth, NJ. He set off two bombs in NYC and one on the Jersey Shore during a Marine triathlon.

His family took videos of him blowing stuff up in the backyard but said nothing.

He got into a shootout with police in Linden, NJ but survived and is on trial now.

“””What keeps you in Connecticut?””””

LOL. It sure ain’t the pizza. I grew up in Chicago and the corner pizza shops had better pizza than the best CT pizza.

I went to college in Chicago, and even had a job MAKING Chicago Pizza (at Edwardo's on 57th). The patrons weren't as interested in getting pizza, But getting a monstrosity stuffed with cheese and either spinach or pesto. Similar results at Uno's, Connie's, Giordano's, Gino's East (with corn meal flavor added), and a whole lot of others. Home Run Inn pizza tastes like cardboard. Fortunately, you can get a New Haven style pizza at Piece Pizza on North Avenue. The stuffed pizza is in fact a feminist creation, inverting the proper order (sauce on top?!) and placing an unnatural barrier (MORE dough ... there wasn't enough?!) between the sauce and the cheese.

The natural resources are always the last to go. If I find myself in NJ, even in Trenton, I have no doubt there is still great pizza to be had.

I’ve never watched any of those shows either (they are embarrassments to NJ and Italians).

As an Irishman I’m sure anyone makes better-tasting food than my people; that is why there are no Irish restaurants (except McDonalds).

I thought McDonald's was Scottish.

That would be MacDonalds (actually Ray Kroc was a Czech - I was kidding about McDonalds being an “Irish restaurant”).

When I was younger my town had five fish-and-chip restaurants (including an Arthur Treachers); it was a very Scottish town at one time, now there is only one left.

Well, I was kidding about it being Scottish, as the name could be either. I don't know the heritage of the MacDonald brothers from whom Kroc bought the concept and name (short version of a long story).
