Holy cr@p! You’re lying comatose in a hospital but your ticker is functioning and your chart lists you as an organ donor.
What an incentive to just call MedSource & pull the plug!
They’re not going to strip me for parts when the time comes, that’s for sure.
My mom.lassed away in a hospital at 1130 sept. 1st 2017.
About 2 hours after she died, but certainly less than 3 hours after, I got a phome call from a man representing a body donation firm that was a “non-profit.”
I told him “no” and that I was not ready to make a decision.
He gave me a polite hard sell...said no paperwork was needed and they could do it (authorize the harvesting of body parts for research) all over the phone.
My sister did a quick internet search if the company which turned up the fact that they had both a non-profit and a for profit under the same name.
I told him my final answer was “no” because we didn’t want mom being “partrd out” for someone else’s profit.
He pushed back until I said we knew they had a for profit business and asked that he “respect the family’s wishes.”
My experience and this story leads me to believe that there is some crazy stuff going on with dead bodies and “research” in our country.
I’m sorry to hear about your Mom, and doubly sorry to hear about that company’s hard sell one of the worst days of your life. How heartless.

Thanks....in reality it wasn’t that bad of an experience (dealing with the company rep.)
Because I have no problem telling people to go jump in a lake...and I really had bigger things on my mind....but what surprised me was they called before the death certificate was signed....like 36 hours before.
Being an organ donor is not the same thing as donating your body for medical or research. With organ donation, the body is released back to the family for burial or cremation.
Parts is parts.
Good on ya for standing your ground.

My first question, while reading this, is...why the need for AMERICAN body parts, for these other countries??
Why not do their “research” on their own dead bodies???
What is it about American body parts that makes this macabre, morose biz so valuable??

I pulled the plug on that when Oregon gave a liver transplant to an illegal immigrant serving prison time for raping children.
There was a white paper by a Chinese general a few years back where he entertained the idea of moving 800,000,000 Chinese to North America after depopulating the area with a genetically engineered biological. You need a wide variety of target genetic material to find a common marker to target.
It might actually be an instance where our “diversity is strength” because we’ve done the most mixing of genetic subgroups here...
