Maryland will sue Trump administration over state tax-deduction cap

Maryland will sue the Trump administration for capping state and local tax (SALT) deductions in its new federal tax law, the state’s attorney general said Thursday.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act signed by President Trump last year contains a provision capping SALT deductions at $10,000, and Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh said residents across the heavily-taxed state stand to take a hit as a result.

“By eliminating the SALT deductions, Trump’s tax bill will jack up taxes for more than half a million Marylanders,” Mr. Frosh, a Democrat, said in a statement announcing his intent to sue the Trump administration. “It is an attack on state sovereignty and an attempt to cripple our ability to educate our kids, protect the Chesapeake Bay, and build the infrastructure that Maryland needs to be competitive in the world economy.”

They are afraid of a revolt over extremely high state taxes. This will be a loser in court.

Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh ...

Look for this libtard to following in OMalleys footsteps and gear everything he does the next few years to set up a Presidental run.

I remember the push by this guy for the gun legislation back in 2013 in MD ... it was all so OMalley could say at a Presidential debate "... all these candidates talk about what they would do to enact common sense gun control ... well in Maryland we did it!" ...

It was always about that debate punch line ...

The Supreme Court has already ruled the Feds have the power to tax, expecially if you don’t buy healthcare insurance.

Wrong target. Congress writes the tax code.

Well, more power to them if it’s unconstitutional.

Otherwise, this might be fun. My money is on “otherwise”.

Why are they suing the Trump Administration? Congress passed this law.

Yet more proof (as if more is needed) that maryland is THE Freak state. It is truly hopeless there. Escape while you are still able to do so.

Actually, the new provision definitely effects many areas of Texas. We don’t have a State income tax, but local property taxes have grown unchecked for many years. This will definitely bolster the movement to curb this uncontrolled and seemingly uncontrollable money grab on the part of local school districts and municipalities.

“The median property tax in Maryland is $2,774.00 per year for a home worth the median value of $318,600.00. Counties in Maryland collect an average of 0.87% of a property’s assesed fair market value as property tax per year. Maryland has one of the highest average property tax rates in the country, with only ten states levying higher property taxes.”

SALT deduction is capped at $10,000 so the AG is fighting to protect the rich.

“They are afraid of a revolt over extremely high state taxes. “

They’re more afraid that their “golden geese,” the wealthy, will be packing up and leaving like they are here in CA. The RAT-run, high-tax states, are at the end of their collective financial ropes They have built a State workforce and “programs” to buy votes and keep them in power that they cannot now sustain. The stupid masses, don’t have the financial wherewithal to keep them afloat financially, and now with a SCOTUS that is on the cusp of becoming once again what it was supposed to be, their downfall in the next few years is assured. MAGA

These guys refuse to believe that “um, because it sucks, that’s why” will stand up better in court than “Congress shall have the power to levy taxes”.

Finally get to see if the tyrants at SCOTUS will piss all over the 5th Amendment Due Process Clause too.
