Donald Trump Shouldn’t Talk to the Feds. And Neither Should You.

When the feds interview a subject or target, their goal is not mere information-gathering or fact-finding or "clearing a few things up." Their goal is the hunt.

One purpose, arguably the primary purpose, is to provoke the foolish interviewee into lying, thus committing a new, fresh federal crime that is easily prosecuted, rendering the original investigation irrelevant.

When special counsels or FBI agents ask questions ..., they are not fact-finding. They've already done their homework. They've already gathered facts—almost certainly many more facts than the interviewee knows. They are asking questions the answers to which they can already prove, hoping that the interviewee will tell a provable lie, and thus commit a crime, or at least lock themselves into a feckless story that ties their hands later.

even an honest, circumspect person faces grave peril in such an interview. FBI agents and prosecutors are adept at putting interviewees ill at ease. The pressure is immense. Human memory is fallible, and the interrogators are not disposed to view misremembered statements as accidents. You don't know the significance of everything they are asking you, and most people simply cannot sustain the sort of focus necessary to respond to complicated questions precisely and accurately for a sustained period of time. "Just tell the truth," applied to a complicated interview, assumes that the witness is extraordinarily disciplined and that questioners have an open mind and will act fairly and in good faith. Those assumptions are not warranted.

I submit this is not a close call. If the president were my client, I would advise him not to submit voluntarily to an interview, under oath or not, with Special Counsel Mueller. It offers him nothing but risk

The Deep State Bush clan screwed us all with the Patriot Act. Obama/Cankle/NSA/FBI could not have done what they did without it!

The terrible TV will be from the same aholes that are already giving him terrible TV.

True, but why give them even more?

The average voter knows the fix is in!!!

His base knows that. The Democrats already hate him. It's the group in between he needs to worry about.

Dead on. Just from this, I’ve learned a lot. Same goes for talking to police when you might be a target...ALWAYS get a lawyer.

Like the article implies, they’re counting on Trump’s ‘confidence’ to get that ‘interview’. Just watching Trump, many times when he appears to be wrong or lying, if you just change a word or two (small changes, like “and” or “or”) you can figure out what he meant and that he was not intending to lie. But slips like that will get him indicted.

I never understood why Bush would not pardon him. It was a travesty of justice. That explains it. Thank you.

If you should ever agree to a request by ANY federal agency for an interview, require that the interview take place at your lawyers office and give yourself about a week.

Then at the entrances of the building, put up those building is being video monitored signs. In the conference room, set up video recording from a couple of different angles. Make sure that the recording is working and is a legal record of the interview.

Prior to the meeting starting (say a min) start the recording. Inform the FBI that you will be taking notes for your record and ask the FBI agents to identify themselves and in return, identify yourself by providing picture id (Drivers License) and have your lawyer do the same. The order of who identifies is not important. What is important is that everyone provides picture id.

Do not tell the agents you are recording unless state laws require you to do so! If state laws do require you to notify the other party, inform them AFTER everyone has identified themselves. Further, get them to either agree to continue or have THEM stop the interview.

"Law enforcement" is LEGALLY ALLOWED TO, can and does LIE TO INDIVIDUALS/PEOPLE ALL the time, EVERY DAY. Don't believe me, just watch ANY episode of "The First 48" = real cops investigating real murders, and watch how they "interview" individuals, "persons of interest" and "suspects".

They intentionally lie and say they have evidence (which they DON'T HAVE) linking the person to a crime, say they are their "friend", say they just "want to help", say they "just want to clear things up", lie about why they have asked the person to come in to "talk to them", they lie in order to trick people into willfully incriminating themselves... their list of lies are innumerable. They LIE HABITUALLY all in the guise of "investigating the crime" never once telling the people they are talking to "ANYTHING YOU SAY CAN (and will) BE USED A G A I N S T YOU IN A COURT OF LAW".

The only time they stop their nefarious, deceptive "questions" is the very moment the person they are talking to says the magic word "lawyer" or "attorney". Only then do they end their "discussion" and abruptly, literally flee the room because they know the individual has taken full advantage of their rights under the law against self incrimination. And note how dissapointed, angry, frustrated, upset these supposed "up holders of the law" often react (once they leave the witness "interrogation room") when the person they are talking/lying to say they want a lawyer!

As has been aptly said: "NEVER TALK TO LAW ENFORCEMENT", and "ALWAYS ASK FOR A LAWYER", no exceptions.

Remember, that’s all Patrick Fitzgerald wound up prosecuting Scooter Libby on - perjury; that’s it.

And why did he do it? He had to deliver for the Deep State, chastened by their own 9/11 failures, and not liking G.W. Bush one bit, they used the Plame-blame-game to hang on the Bush admin and get at least one “conviction” out of it - keeping the whole anti-Bush mantra of it going the whole time.

It rankles me that anyone in the Trump administration would even consider submitting answers to a set of questions, much less actually sitting down with the snake. Responding in that fashion was pathetic even before all the circumstances of the dossier came out without all that fraud and deception.

Trump would lend credibility and legitimacy to the hoax by responding directly in any form.

Doesn’t stop them from changing you with lying if they have a witness who disputes your (taped) story and your tape just gave them more “evidence.”

Trump is nuts if he talks to Mueller. I don’t think he has any intention of it. I don’t see Jay Sekulow allowing it.

People have gone to federal prison for this stunt:

FBI Agent 1: "Sir what time is it? Remember you are Mirandized".
Unsuspecting citizen: "3:37PM Sir".
FBI Agent 1: "I have 15:38".
FBI Agent 2: "You are under arrest for lying to a federal agent. Place your hands behind your back.

One more thing; when a policeman pulls you over and asks "Do you know why I pulled you over?" Don't answer anything but this: "I have no idea; I guess you'll have to tell me".

This is again a leading question, specifically designed and worded in order to get you to incriminate yourself because ANYTHING you say can be used against you in a court of law. And once the officer says why he pulled you over don't try and defend yourself (unless it is a genuine emergency = i.e., rushing to the hospitsl), it will only be used against you!

If you want to defend yourself, do it in court, preferably with an attorney.

I never, ever defend myself when pulled over. I never agrgue with a cop. I do pull a little-girl-poor-stupid-me act which really softens the average cop’s heart. I suppose as I get older, it’s going to fail me. Being young and pretty has its merits!

Don't talk to cops and always get a lawyer

That used to work. Now they manufacture evidence or plant prohibited items on your person/property (ATF used to drop unregistered auto sears in FFL locations).

Anyways, you have to amend the above statement to read:

NEVER TALK TO COPS, ALWAYS GET AN ATTORNEY, AND HAVE THE MEANS TO RECORD YOUR VERSION UPON FIRST CONTACT.

Buy a dashcam and know how to upload and look at these apps for your phone:

1. Mobile Justice
Mobile Justice is an app created by the American Civil Liberties Union for videotaping questionable police conduct on one’s phone. The app sends video directly to the nearest ACLU chapter after being recorded. If your phone is confiscated from you, the video stays safe from being deleted. The App is free and available for Apple and Android.

2. Cop Watch Video Recorder
This app begins filming the moment it's launched. Once done filming, users have the option of uploading the video directly to YouTube. In addition to being able to film, the app gives advice surrounding laws of filming police officers. The app can be downloaded on the iPhone and is free.

3. Cop Recorder
This app allows users to secretly capture voice recordings of law enforcement encounters without having the app open at all times. Once enacted, this app gives off the impression that the phone is operating normally, without showing the app working. Once recorded, the app sends the recordings to the app’s servers. The app is for both iOS and Android and is free.

4. Cop Block
Cop Block is a police recording app to which people can send a video after filming questionable police behavior. The app serves as a connection to a community of people sharing content of recording law enforcement. This app is available on iOS and Android and is free.

Yup.

Here is the bottom line for the FBI.

They are FINISHED as an effective law enforcement agency. No American will any longer trust them enough to talk to them about ANYTHING.

Tell them you saw a blue sedan? They’ll claim it was turquoise and then charge you with a process crime.

America is just going to clam-up when the FBI appears.

I know if I’m on a jury and any evidence was touched by the FBI, I’m voting to acquit.

I suspect most of you will as well.

Rush is touting a poll that says 50% of people believe Justice and FBI cooked up lies against Trump. 40% believe they didndonuffin wrong.
