Skip to comments.Opinion: President Trump must dump John Kelly in what's become a no-win situation

The Rob Porter domestic abuse scandal is more than just another bout of bad publicity for the White House. It's an actual dilemma that leaves President Donald Trump with no great options, only differing levels of bad choices.
But every sensible choice includes chief of staff John Kelly leaving the White House.
The key is what Kelly knew about the evidence of Porter's domestic abuse record, when he knew it, and what he did about it when he did know it.
That leaves Kelly stepping down quietly and the president not commenting about it as the least bad scenario. It's still not going to look good for a White House staff that seems to be in constant chaos and flux. But the appearance of a White House organization in disarray is still preferable to what comes off as a lack of decency and tolerance for damning evidence of domestic abuse, not to mention serious security lapses.
This is indeed a real scandal for the Trump administration. Real damage has been done and more will come. But what the president does next will determine just how serious that damage will be.

Kelly’s fine. The story about Porter should be simply ignored.
You forgot “barf alert” in the title?
Dump Fake news and never do anything they want us to do.
Not knowing the sordid details of the years-ago divorces of everyone under him?
This is ridiculous. I remember how many times Valerie Jarrett was called to resign and she never went anywhere. Politics NEVER ends.
Next fake scandal coming right up.
Jake Novak can take a hike.
FAKE NEWS Jeez, I guess we can look forward to at least another 7 years of fake news.
More helpful advice from Trump’s true friends at MSNBC....
It should be ignored but it wont. However once the IG report and arrests starts happening in the Hillary email/Russia collusion scam then it will be blotted out by these massive scandals
Honestly, who cares what someone at CNBC thinks are his “options?” It has nothing to do with reality. It’s what used to be called an op-ed.
Say, jes’ wonderin’, is Al Franken still in The Senate? What about John Conyers? He still in The House?
Yeah, Trump better dump Kelly or the media might turn against him. Fools........
Propaganda machines are running hot and heavy these days!
It’s a situation that didn’t have to happen. I do not understand why anyone was working in the WH who doesn’t have a completed security clearance. Especially with the unending problem with leaks and people from within not supporting the Trump agenda, I cannot fathom why the security checks weren’t complete. Assume Porter is innocent of any wrongdoing. If the security checks had been completed, allegations could’ve been answered right away.
Why the hell is this fodder for a Congressional investigation? Trey Gowdy stirring up crap? Why?
Hillary didn’t fire the perv on her campaign.
For pete’s sake.
I mean by trump.
I’d ask this: Is he convicted of abuse? Is this a country of laws? Then there is nothing to address here. Thank you for your time.
And if they persist, say the same thing, VERBATIM.
Rinse and repeat as needed.
