Age is not the issue but it opens the Door for the Left

You have hit the nail on the head. If we give people the right to restrict gun ownership using an inexact standard “mental health” the decisions will be agenda driven and not evidence based. Add to that that mental healthcare practitioners are among the most liberal fringe thinkers and we have a recipe for chaos. This aspect could be better handled in a background check looking for hospitalizations and current psychotropic medications or by police as followup on interactions.
The problem is that individual rights and community saftey are potentially in conflict. A compromise will still leave both sides angry. We need to thread the needle, err towards Freedom and arm our schools.
In communist countries, political dissenters were (and are) frequently diagnosed as mentally ill for that reason and locked up in mental hospitals.
I’m sure their fellow travelers here consider the desire to own a gun a mental illness in itself.

This incident is why conservatives need to vote in local elections. Elect a pro-2nd amendment, constitutional sheriff in your county. We have one in our county. He’s proactive and is currently offering self-defense weapon classes for women.

For that matter, 18-20 year olds living on their own are probably disproportionately black and Hispanic. The left doesn’t actually care about them when they propose things like this, and Trump should not give into the left’s racism, I say.

I’ve been involved with weapons all my long life (1st .22 at 12 years old) and have been a licensed gun dealer and inventor. Clean record. I am OK with getting rid of “bump-stocks”. I never heard of them until Obama approved them as legal about 2015. Background checks? Sure, why not, just so they are fair and keep out criminals and crazies and aren’t used to arbitrarily keep the public unarmed. Twenty-one years old to buy a gun? No way!!! Old enough to go to war (18), is old enough for everything else.
Hopefully Trump is just stalling around til this dies down.
That’s exactly what is going on, he is the leader of all people, today with a high approval rating. You are persuasive to the public. I’m sure he is doing what is best and it will not infringe on our rights. Always working out a deal.
People seem to fuss about Trump on some issues but they never pan out. He’s been prez. over 1 year. I’m satisfied. These issues are discussed but nothing final has ever occurred.
