Status of our FReepathon server problem. [FReepathon thread LXI]

As of midnight on the morning of March 1, the credit card processing company we use upgraded their systems software and now our system is incompatible with theirs. I'm not a systems tech so can't sufficiently explain all the details, but long story short, after lots of recompiling and rebuilding, John has been unable to resolve the incompatibility issues without impacting the rest of our system and doesn't want to risk bringing down our entire system. Kind of risky doing this kind of work in real time under a full load with no way to test.

So he's now in the process of setting up a completely separate secure secure server, kind of like we used to have prior to our last upgrade. This way he can recompile and rebuild all the systems programs on the separate secure server and resolve the issues without risking or impacting the rest of FR. When it's complete, the "https://freerepublic.com/donate/..." series of links will point to the new secure server for our donation system and the rest of the "https://freerepublic.com/..." links will continue pointing to our current servers and they are also secure servers.

He says there's a good chance this can be done today and then we'll be back to normal with our FReepathon. Meanwhile, the special PayPal links I set up work for those using PayPal and, of course, mail-in checks are always greatly appreciated!

Our Mini Bull Terrier has a multitude of noises he makes that MBT owners refer to as "Pteradactyl". It's a collection of snorts, rumbles and gasping, and other sounds that seem to many to be similar to what a dinosaur might make. They are constantly trying to communicate.

LOL, once upon a time, I get a call from Wells Fargo,

‘Did you just try to spend $5,000 at the Home Depot in Moreno Valley?’

‘OK your card has been stolen, we’ll cancel it and send you a new one’

‘Sounds like a plan to me...’

A few days later I get my new card.

The next day I get a call from Wells Fargo,

‘Did you just try to spend $3500 at the Home Depot in Moreno Valley?’

‘Ummmmm, no. Please tell me that when you sent the replacement card to me, you didn’t also send a duplicate to the guy who stole my identity...’

Then, ‘We’ll send just you another replacement card.’
