Arrr, ye take me meaning, lad.

How stupid!! They were too dumb to do it right the first time (and too inexperienced also). What makes anyone think they won’t sink this one too. Oceans bays etc are extremely unforgiving of stupidity and ignorance. I have a boat and I can assure anyone who asks it is NOT like driving a car.

Recently talked with a friend who used to work for the FAA. He mentioned that in Alaska there are many self-taught pilots who never received any instruction, have no license, have no insurance, crash a lot. High accident rate in AK. Place is just too big and rough for any better enforcement.

From the comment section at Fox News:
“Here’s the way the story plays out: The boat sinks and they drown. Their families claim the boat wasn’t seaworthy and sue the doctor for $10 million. He has to sell everything he owns and the dumbasses’ families get rich. They become advocates for the “pursue your passion” movement and appear on MSNBC to preach against fatcat doctors who don’t really care about people yet become rich from exploiting the healthcare system. They tweet his address and picketers appear, driving them out of their home and into a homeless camp. They become featured on MSNBC as a sad tale of successful people who lost everything because of Donald Trump.”

Hmmm. Do the couple owe a gift tax on the probably high dollar gift the doctor gave them?

You got that right. This story illustrates a lot of concepts, but the one that stands out for me, as a former boat owner, is the fact that so much of the boat market is pure luxury goods. People do not need them, and when the economy turns south or the owner's health limits their ability to sail or pilot, these things go on the market at fire sale prices. Point being, never buy a new boat, look carefully at the used market to find the ones where the owner's estate is selling the boat, or the owner bought the boat and didn't realize they were not going to have the time/interest to use it enough. My last boat was a Sea-Ray that the first owner had for 10 years. He used it for 34 total hours, kept it in a high and dry facility. Looked new, had some dated instrumentation, but was otherwise flawless. We bough it for less than 20% of the original selling price of ~$74K (and at that the owner had spent $24K storing it over the years he had it.) A boat truly is a hole in the water, into which one must pour a continuous supply of money...
