Yes.

“HAND SALUTE” indeed.

What a difference from the anti-military scum who have been inhabiting the West Wing for most of the last decade.

Trump seems like he gets it.

Hopefully they have a ‘Go Fund Me’ drive for him.

I wouldn't be surprised, if Trump pardoned Lt. Col Terry Lakin at some point.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Lakin is a scumbag and a coward whose dereliction forced other men to take his place on the front lines of Afghanistan.

And you know what I like?

When this came to Trump’s attention, he probably looked at whatever someone handed him, asked if it were accurate, and made a decision.

Other politicians would have said “Let’s wait until the end of this term or until after the next election campaign...” but I suspect he just said “This isn’t right. Get him out.”

From all I have read about Trump so far from people who are close to him, this sounds like it would be a common theme.

No pussyfooting around. Just make a decision, do it, ignore the noise, and go to the next thing.

Yes, you are looking at it incorrectly. He served a year in prison and his life ruined due to the felony conviction for a very minor transgression.

A pardon was called for from the perspective of mercy and equality under the law, laughable as that idea may be these days. A pardon isn’t expungement; he’ll still have a record.

I interpret this pardon as official forgiveness. All indications are that this sailor was careless and stupid, not malicious. He should not have faced prison time, just lost his clearance, and separated from the Navy.

I wish him well, in a life without access to classified information.

Good point. But Obama’s DOJ/FBI took it upon themselves to simply excuse Hillary for something she was all but indicted.

I’m career military, but retired in 2001. My son did 2 tours in Iraq, 2004 & 2007, IIRC. During his time in Iraq, if that would have happened, they would have blown the motorcycles away without even thinking.

This is a good start.

There are lot of very good soldiers who were persecuted and wrongfully courtmartialed as an example of what happens to soldiers who are proactive against terrorists.

They need pardons as well

I’m open to defining pardon more broadly. It always struck me as saying someone didn’t do anything wrong.

I was thinking this should have been more of a prisoner exchange!

He's a "scumbag" to you because he dared question the legality of one Soebarkah / Barry Soetoro, the biggest con-man in American national politics.

He should have never been allowed to be a POTUS candidate on any ballot but more than half of the country was either petrified with fear to question the obvious, or they were/are communist's who want to take American down.

LTC Lakin sought advice and confirmation of Barry's eligibility and his orders being lawful from:

Legal assistance at Aberdeen Proving Grounds - Result = Ignored him

His commander and supervisor - Who acknowledge there IS an issue. - Result = They don't know what to do

Submits Article 138 complaint to his company commander - Result = they tell him his Article 138 complaint was deficient, so the Army didn’t have to answer it.

Then writes letters to his congressional "representation" - Result = 1 Senator ignores him, the other say's the issue was "twittered" and therefore resolved and his Congressman forwards this issue to military affairs but apparently doesn't get answers to Lakin's questions and concerns.

After being transferred to the Pentagon, he raised the issue with his clinic’s commander - Result = Commander acknowledges there IS an issue BUT had no guidance as to what to do.

Then submitted another Article 138 complaint, this one routed through General Casey - Result = General Casey wasn’t in his chain of command, so his Article 138 complaint wouldn’t be addressed.

Then goes to Capitol Hill for face-to-face meetings with one Congressman and high-level staffers. They acknowledge there IS an issue BUT but the media ridiculed it. Result = they let it go.

To accept a pardon, you also acknowledge your guilt.

No, he's a scumbag because he disobeyed orders to deploy to Afghanistan and violated the oath he took not only as a military officer but as a physician. Another doctor had to take his place.

If you had served, you'd understand.

Like I said, don't hold your breath waiting for President Trump to pardon this POS. Doubt Terry Lakin is even on his radar.

Poor guy. Now that he’s been pardoned he can be recalled to active duty.
