The North used a lot of immigrant soldiers to take down the South, and the Northern elite arranged things so they suffered relatively little.

I like Kurt, but he ignores the potential for outside militaries to intervene.

Do you think Obama or successors would have any compunction on calling for NATO or Chinese “peacekeepers” to pacify U.S. rural areas?

There would be lots of Mexicans willing to fill ranks in the U.S. Army and Marines, if it came to that, for generous benefits and a promise of a piece of rural America confiscated from conservative “rebels”.

You beat me to it. Schlicter ignores the effects of a probable outside intervention. The U.N. from the east, Chinese from the west, Russians from the north and Mexican narco-terrorist gangs from the south will pose an invasive force that may overwhelm the red-state advantage.

I would be especially wary of the Chinese. They could put millions of men on three fronts (Canada, California and Mexico) in short order. Baring the use of tactical nuclear weapons (which isn't going to happen) the communists could own the western half of the United States very quickly.

They could field at best maybe 5 million with outside forces. Maybe a few more million Chinese. We have about 80 million militia ready to go. Attrition for them would be a bitch. Most likely though: the war would be over very quickly with a siege on the cities. Focused attacks on the liberal elite. They couldn’t surrender fast enough.

You have forgotten the surveys that have been conducted fairly frequently by the military concerning the reaction of the American military when ordered to fire on the US civilian population. It wouldn’t happen except in isolated incidents. By and large the US military would refuse to take action against the US population. The number of Liberal officers is small in comparison to the number of conservative officers. The US Military would defend the constitution. The Russians and he Chinese have huge armies but don’t have the logistics capability to move them half way around the world and support them. A few divisions, maybe? They would face a resurgent and loyal US Military that would cut them to pieces on our home soil.

The UN? You mean the cowardly, blue hats, that are known for raping, robbing, molesting and pillaging everywhere they go? The only reason they go anywhere is because the US pays for everything. They are beyond useless.

Both the Russian and Chinese armies are nothing more than conscript armies that, while large, are poorly trained and would have to cross oceans to get here.

As for the narco-gangs, yes they are violent. Against unarmed mules and immigrants. Let them come up against a group of guys that have a clue and they aren’t going to hold a line anymore than a squad of hipsters in LA.

The biggest reason we have issues on the border or elsewhere is, because the American military is restrained. Do you or anyone else think that the issues we have on the Southern border would last, if we were shooting people on sight?

I understand that what you write about is a consideration, but let’s not underestimate the abilities of the people of the USA, especially in a scenario like this.

Do you really think that? The Chinese do have a plan. They want Taiwan, the Paracels, and the Spratleys. After that they want to occupy or neutralize Korea, Japan, and Siberia. They are not going to leapfrog the USN and cross the Pacific with "millions of men" in our lifetimes.

One word
Logistics.

Supplying a few million man army in CA would be difficult, if not impossible.

And once they left the coasts things get rather sporting. We have a lot of space that could be used to chew up any advancing army. How many only sons of Chinese parents do you think that they could lose till their population snaps?

International military intervention would galvanize both sides against this international nonsense. And ESPECIALLY any communists. An insane idea for sure.

How are any of these militaries going to get here? Swim?

The Europeans have no stomach for fighting, and in any case, any US civil war would probably mean they would have their hands full with Russia.

And the US would still control its nuclear weapons. Even if a rogue leftist US government invited them in, it would be a hard offer to accept, if for no other reason than such invitation would be a good way to cause US strategic forces to remove themselves from the US command structure.

My guess is everyone else would sit it out and wait for the dust to settle.
