Let’s have a good-faith argument about socialism
Washington Post ^ | March 11, 2018 | Elizabeth Bruenig

Posted on 03/12/2018 6:30:21 AM PDT by C19fan

Last week, I wrote a column arguing that liberals concerned about ongoing failures in the American experiment should consider socialist remedies. I knew there would be quite a bit of disagreement. And I knew that most — though, crucially, not all — of it would unfold in bad faith.

What is bad faith? It’s a term coined by the philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre that means, in the helpful gloss of George Mason University anthropologist Roger Lancaster, when you tell a lie and you start to believe it, then forget it was a lie. In the argumentative context, engaging in bad faith means to engage without really trying to understand or address the opposing view, which usually manifests in profound mischaracterizations of the other side. At that point — especially when caught up in the thrilling energy of group condemnation — it’s easy to forget that you’re arguing against a position of your own invention.

This is moronic. Norway has a population smaller than Manhattan's, but has a $1 trillion sovereign wealth fund from investing its oil money.

That kind of money buys a lot of margin for error. Who cares if your economic system works or not when you are sitting on a Mount Everest of cash?

Why bother to consider this? Leftists don’t want and won’t allow good faith arguments on anything else. Why are we expected to believe they would do so here? Because Republicans are suckers?

Lucy should take her football somewhere else.

https://norskbloggen.no/new-rules-for-immigration-to-norway

Permanent residency
The main thing here is that now there is not one but two tests you must pass before you can become a permanent resident in Norway.

You must pass the oral Norwegian language test at A1 level. You must pass the Social Studies test in whichever language you choose.

As before you also need:

- 300 or 600 hours of classes
- to have stayed in Norway for at least 3 years (more or less) continually maintain the main condition for your temporary visa (work, marriage, etc.)
- not have committed a serious crime while in Norway.

Citizenship
As of January 1st 2017, new citizens must also pass two tests:

Norwegian oral (muntlig) test at minimum A2 level
Statsborgerprøven (new test) in NORWEGIAN
The test is very similar but not identical to the Social studies test for Permanent Residency. But even if you already passed the Social study test for your PR, you need to pass this test again — this time in Norwegian.

All other rules stay the same. There are many different rules for citizenship depending on your previous history with Norwegian immigration.

Who the new citizenship regs are for
If you are between 18 and 67 years old and you submit your application AFTER Jan 1st 2017, the new rules apply to you. If you submitted your application before that date you don’t need to worry about the new rules.

ncreased income requirement for family immigration

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security has amended the Immigration Regulations section 10-8 first paragraph (FOR-2016-04-22-417) by increasing the income requirement in family immigration cases to salary grade 24 in the Norwegian state salary scale, which currently amounts to NOK 305 200. This is an increase of approximately NOK 50 000, from the previous requirement of 88 percent of salary grade 19 in the state salary scale. The amendment entered into force on 9 May 2016. The income requirement for the previous year’s income, cf. section 10-9 first and second paragraph, enters into force on 9 May 2017.

NOK 305 200 == $ 39,263.98 US

Nobel Prize winning economists, Fredrick Von Hayek and Milton Friedman wrote extensively about how giving government more control over the economy (socialism) inevitably leads to loss of individual liberty. Socialist economies have a disturbing tendency to become police states. Ms Bruenig has obviously not read Von Hayek’s book The Road to Serfdom

Norway is a beautiful country with lots going for it. But it is mind-numbingly expensive. Ten years ago a beer in a bar was $10. A pair of ordinary jeans was a solid $120, an ordinary collared shirt was $75. Wages are a lot higher for “nothing” jobs; taxes are huge. University is probably free or very cheap; I would also reckon that the highest skilled people do not earn a lot more than the least skilled people.

Above all (or maybe not) it is culturally quite homogeneous. It is VERY “undiverse”. For all its good, for all its bad, there is no way whatsoever that such a system could work with the hodgepodge of people who inhabit the US.

Socialists have been saying for years, “we’ll get it right this time.”

Socialist governments murdered over 100 million of their citizens in the last century; just imagine what could have been accomplished if only "the right people had been in charge".

Socialism, in all of it's pernicious manifestations, is theft by force and coercion, and completely immoral and evil. Period.

Thou shall not steal.

Thou shall not murder.

Theft and murder, just two of the hallmarks of socialism when taken to its logical conclusion.

Defending socialism by pointing to white Norway and quoting Sartre. Oh yeah, she’s open-minded. (That last sentence was sarcasm)

Google a photo of this twit. We are all arguing with your annoying niece about what she learned last semester and is now preaching at the thanksgiving table.

The social science is settled. Socialism is a brutal, genocidal failure.

IMO, the genocide part of it is what progressives like the best. It is their hope and dream to use genocide against all of the normals they hate.

In truth, the article should be entitled “Let’s have a good faith argument about a bad faith”. No, let’s just keep our freedom and have good faith.

He loves the stage... so why not?

Barack Obama is now (thankfully) former president... the Castro brothers are 86 (Raul) and dead (Fidel), so maybe Obama should apply for “Dear Leader” of Cuba. It’s his “utopia” (if not that of the Cuban people). Great benefits! He gets to rule (not govern) for life... at 56 he has years left, he’s smart so I’m sure he can learn Spanish quickly... he’ll get visits and praise from rich Hollywood Leftists and the media will love him! Tis a match made in Marxist Paradise! Go for it BO!

Not just your annoying niece. But her insane and just as obtuse crack-pot husband. Check out Matt Bruenig (who thinks he’s creating a think tank) These people are dangerous and should not be fed.
