Cambridge Analytica, a data vendor for the Trump campaign, was phased out during the general election, CBS News reports. The firm is now at the center of reports that it exploited Facebook data and harvested millions of U.S. voter profiles without user authorization during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The Trump campaign never used the psychographic data at the heart of a whistleblower who once worked to help acquire the data's reporting -- principally because it was relatively new and of suspect quality and value. The profiling approach utilized by Cambridge Analytica allowed it to predict the voting likelihoods of individual people based on personality, the firm claimed.
Facebook announced on Friday that the firm -- which is partly owned by billionaire donor Robert Mercer and which was paid $5.9 million by Mr. Trump's 2016 presidential campaign -- has been suspended for violating the social media company's standards and practices.
In late September 2016, Cambridge and other data vendors were submitting bids to the Trump campaign. Then-candidate Trump's campaign used Cambridge Analytica during the primaries and in the summer because it was never certain the Republican National Committee would be a willing, cooperative partner. Cambridge Analytica instead was a hedge against the RNC, in case it wouldn't share its data.
The crucial decision was made in late September or early October when Mr. Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Brad Parscale, Mr. Trump's digital guru on the 2016 campaign, decided to utilize just the RNC data for the general election and used nothing from that point from Cambridge Analytica or any other data vendor. The Trump campaign had tested the RNC data, and it proved to be vastly more accurate than Cambridge Analytica's, and when it was clear the RNC would be a willing partner, Mr. Trump's campaign was able to rely solely on the RNC.
That narrative collapsed in a hurry.
LOL...yes, it did!
But what about the second narrative today that Facebook directly collaborated with Clinton? That one still stands and is in apparent violation of the FTC agreement they made. Does FTC investigate or who?
I see the article is written by Major Garrett, who used to be with Fox.
He must be a Major Irritant at CBS.
here ya go! ping
It doesn’t sound like he has gone over to the other side.
In July 2015, Garrett made headlines when he asked Obama during a press conference why he was “content” with the Iran Nuclear Deal that left four AmericansAmir Mirza Hekmati, Jason Rezaian, Saeed Abedini, and Robert Levinsontrapped in Iran. The President admonished Garrett by saying, “...that’s nonsense, and you should know better.”
“Does FTC investigate or who?”
Actually, FEC, as in Federal Elections Commission.
And yes, if ANY Facebook resources were given (or shared, to use metrosexual language) with the Clinton campaign, that would be an ILLEGAL, in-kind, contribution. “In-kind” meaning not cash, but having the same value as cash, and Illegal because it’s simply ILLEGAL for any corporation, or any union, for that matter, to provide any material aid to a federal campaign without being paid fair market value. People from those corporations (or unions) are welcome to volunteer personally, or even get paid for work, but corporate assets cannot be used.
If Facebook turned over the profiles of their users to Hillary, they (and Hillary) are (or at least should be) in HUGE TROUBLE.
How about the fact that F/B STOCK ATE DOODLE TODAY?
YAHOO
Law of unintended consequences !!
I own some inadvertently thru a trust.
i still say Yahoo!!
Our state party had a presentation a few years ago by Cambridge....many of us felt it was SOOOO intrusive, and that people would not participate in giving up info...altho, in many cases they didn’t have to give up anything...it was already out there. I don’t think it’s rocket science as to who votes for whom....but Cambridge made it sound like they were amazingly good at analytics...which likely they were...but, as I said, It ain’t rocket science...and GOP parties generally don’t have the $$ to pay for it.
Gosh, when ‘bama did this the media thot it was super!
Sadly , yes he has .
He was a serious cheer leader for years .
He goes to Evil David Axelrods bday parties and brags about it .
Actually, it will probably be the great Nobody that looks into this.
Calling Martha Stewart... design a jumpsuit for Zuckerberg.
His FTC settlement is the real challenge--$50,000 fine for each time he shared or allowed access to private info without explicit permission. His current/former staff said they shared data with Clinton. Plus, Cambridge Analytica had some, which apparently happened after Trump dropped them. It is Clinton's apparently unfettered access that is millions of people. Plus, didn't help her incompetent campaign.
And all of this feeds the Europeans who take privacy more seriously that our government does here in the US.
Whoosh!!!!
Think Enron, as in gone... vamoose.
Wonder how their CPA auditors will handle this liability?
Who audits FakeBook?
Trump Curse.
I think Cambridge Analytica is uniparty.
