Retired justice urges repeal of Second Amendment

Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens is calling for the repeal of the Second Amendment to allow for significant gun control legislation.

The 97-year-old Stevens says in an essay on The New York Times website that repeal would weaken the National Rifle Association's ability to "block constructive gun control legislation."

Stevens was on the losing end of a 2008 ruling in which the high court held that the Second Amendment gives individuals the right to own a gun for self-defense. He had previously called for changing the Second Amendment to permit gun control.

The NRA has around 5 million members. [1]

The U.S. has around 75 to 100+ million people that own a gun. [2]

The NRA represents a tiny fraction of all gun owners.

The NRA is an important organization, when it comes to the 2nd Amendment in particular, but is far from the end all be all for a vast majority of legal gun owners.

The socialists’ plans are to pack the Supreme Court with liberal judges who will rule that literally every infringement of the 2nd Amendment, including confiscation, is constitutional by saying that the RKBA is not an individual right and the time of the citizen militia has passed.
