Back in Florida, Rubio issues warnings -- for Trump on Korea and the NRA on the Second Amendment

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio was in full-alarm mode Tuesday on the second day of a two-week swing around the state during the spring recess.

He warned that President Donald Trump‘s scheduled meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jung-un is potentially “dangerous and counter-productive.” He warned of China’s “unprecedented” and steady attempt at displacing the U.S. as the world economic power. And he warned the National Rifle Association that if it doesn’t focus its energy on reducing mass shootings, the Second Amendment could be at stake.

“I would argue today that perhaps the single, biggest threats to the Second Amendment are these mass shootings because if it weren’t for mass shootings and gun crime you wouldn’t see this outcry,″ Rubio said at a meeting with reporters at his Tallahassee office in the Florida state Capitol. “It’s awakening the conscience of the country.”

He called Trump’s visit with Jung-un “counter-productive because it will be used just to give him a platform to look important,″ adding that he doesn’t know “if the meeting is ever going to take place or not.

Rubio said he was “doubtful” that Jung-un was interested in denuclearization.

“I am very doubtful that he will ever surrender his nuclear weapons because, for him, that is his life insurance,″ Rubio said. “That is what keeps him in power. Because he is fearful of becoming [deposed Libyan leader Muammar] Gaddafi and fearful of becoming [executed Iraqi president] Saddam Hussein and he’s a young man. He’s got to figure out how to hold onto power for 50-60 years.”

He said Jung-un benefits from the meeting more than Trump because the dictator “lured an American president’ into a meeting and it helps him in his quest “to be accepted as a global power.

“Little Marco is in danger of losing his seat.”

He won reelection in 2016. That’s what makes his behavior baffling. He doesn’t need to campaign (unless he’s taking a shot at POTUS again ... but he should have learned that running to the left is quite stupid).

His overarching world view is that America should abandon the rule of law and let in the entire world.

Boy, it isn’t just that he is wrong (because a lot of people are wrong on a lot of things) it is WHAT he is wrong about, and how he is wrong about them!

Rubio, Lindsey, and McCain were repeatedly voted in by Republicans. Seriously, we got to do better or demand term limits.

Remember when Rush called little Marco a “full-throated conservative?” Sure he is, Rush.

Little Marco thinks he should be President. Trump opened a major can of whoop ass on him in the primaries. Beat him bigly in the FL primary.

Remember when he said he was not going to run again for the Senate? Rubio loves feeding at the government trough and doing the bidding of his corporate paymasters.

[And he warned the National Rifle Association that if it doesn’t focus its energy on reducing mass shootings, the Second Amendment could be at stake. ]

How exactly is this the NRA’s responsibility? The man is an imbecile.

Last time I checked it was abject failure of public officials (Parkland) up and down the line with none of them being held accountable for it.

Little Marco is in danger of losing his seat.

Actually Lil Marco received more votes in FL in 2016 than Trump did, i.e., he outproformed him. Rubio feels secure in his seat and won't be up for reelection until 2022.

Actually, In my day, the 1950s, the schools were not gun-free zones. It was there that I got my good early marksmanship training from the Crasman Arms backing of gun safety and inter-school rifle competitions, probably thanks to encouragement from returning WWII and Korean War veteran dads.

That environment pf school training in the use, safety, and marksmanship that led to my proficiency in their use: Army qualifications as Expert with M-1 Rifle, M-1 Carbine, B. A. R., as well as 81mm Mortar Master Gunner. Also, I competed on the Syracuse University Rifle Team.

Shucks, I recall we used to have school assemblies that featured exhibition shooters showing trick shooting, indoors! Those shooters used .22 pump-action rifles.

But for some ill-conceived reason, today's schools have convinced their little wards to irrationally fear real guns without ever actually handling them, or at least, seeing them fired and appreciating the difference of real gunnery versus computer or video arcade games.

I am fully convinced that all our public schools ought to at least be required to give every teacher and every child some kind of exposure to the rules of gun handling and safety, as well as seeing first hand the power of a fired bullet.

Little Marco is wearing his brand new Chicken Little outfit. He is running all around the Florida barnyard trying to get the pigs and cows and horses and goats and sheep to run around with him screaming at the sky. Only the geese are listening and running with him. Such is the way of geese.
