I am a Sunday School sub and I taught this past week’s lesson, which was on Solomon. One of the main reasons that Solomon fell out of favor with God and that the first Temple was destroyed was because he married foreign wives of places and faiths that God had forbidden.
These some of these wives turned Solomon away from God, and he erected high places right outside of Jerusalem to Molech and Chemosh. These are essentially the same fire god named differently by two different peoples.
I read a description on these cast idols as having the face of a cow and outstretched arms to receive a human sacrifice . . . not of an adult, a teen or a youth . . . but of a baby. So detestable was the practice of this religion to God that He eventually sent Israel into exile and destroyed the Temple he had chosen as his house of worship.
For this reason, I believe that abortion is considered by God to be our national sin, and God will not overlook it. Humility, prayer and repentance by our nation is desperately needed. The arrogance of the Left over this issue is appalling and sickening.
Great post. Solomon built the pagan temples, or he allowed them to be built by others? I thought it was the latter, but it really doesn’t matter. Enabling baby murder is about as bad as the murder itself.
Reading his Proverbs, I don’t get anything less than we need to strive for wisdom and understanding.
