I've had that thought, too, but then I ask myself: Amazon is a monopoly on...what, exactly? They ruined it for Woolworth's. Because of Sears and J.C. Penny. And Caldor!
I don't mind Amazon dominating the market for a while. Eventually a Walmart or some other competitor will rise. What I mind is when they expand in to production and media (free advertising), and who knows what else, that I think the monopoly/ trust busting rules should kick in.

I agree. Walmart is already making big moves in the online retail market, and there ARE already other sites that are very similar to Amazon although not as big. But they do the same thing: sell a wide swath of goods with the convenience of online shopping and deals on shipping.
The difference is they have to somehow make their presence known. "Amazon" has become synonymous with online shopping the same way "Frigidaire" was synonymous with that thing that replaced the icebox.

That's why we need Socialism (or Communism, take your pick). Then, everything would be free, or at least it would be the same price no matter where you purchased it.
