MUELLER’S INDUCEMENT
Powerline ^ | April 4,2018 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 04/04/2018 11:53:49 AM PDT by Hojczyk

In context, Mueller’s statement seems like an attempt to induce Trump to be interviewed by Mueller. It is said that Trump’s legal team clashed over whether the president should agree to such an interview, and that John Dowd, who was adamant that Trump should not agree, quit the team over this issue.

Dowd was right. The risk that an interview would enable Mueller to accuse or charge Trump with making false statements is enormous. The risk that Trump would make true statements that Mueller could use against him is substantial. And these two consequences are not incompatible.

Mueller’s statement leaves open the possibility that Trump might become a criminal target. Subjects can easily become targets, especially if they make statements to investigators that the investigators deem false

Looking at the matter from the outside, a case of obstruction seems problematic. A president asking, but not requiring, the FBI director to consider going easy on Michael Flynn isn’t obstruction of justice under any reasonable analysis. Neither is firing the FBI director, especially since the decision does not appear related to the director’s handling of the Flynn matter and since the decision clearly was not intended to, and did not, end the Russia probe. The notion that tweeting negative things about the special counsel constitutes obstruction is laughable.

But making false statements to the special counsel? That looks like obstruction of justice. In any case, it’s a crime in itself.

Not agreeing to an interview with the special counsel? That might look bad, but I don’t think it’s a sound basis for alleging obstruction of justice.

Trump shouldn’t talk to the special counsel.

Trump should invite Mueller over for an off-the-record one-on-one discussion at the White House or on the golf course. Get the “interview” out of the way so that Mueller can shut down his investigation and move on with his life.

This is exactly right. Anyone would be crazy to sit down and talk to a prosecutor under these circumstances.

Trump should invite Mueller to take a long walk off a short Baltimore Harbor pier...

Trump would be wise to refuse to talk to Muller. JMHO but anyone who believes talking to a prosecutor (which is the correct spelling of special counsel) is a good idea needs some good legal advice.

No brainer: Trump knows Mueller’s mission is to get Trump out of the WH and that Mueller has no ethics and morals. Along with the democrats, Mueller is that snake in the song that Trump recites.

WE know how desperate Democrats are to “get Trump.” But the gambit related below goes beyond mere desperation. They just make it up as they go along.

PONDER THIS

AFTER THE FACT Rosenstein memos Mueller with a more specific “description” of his authority:

The memo specifically states that Mueller has the authority to investigate Paul Manafort
“for any crimes arising out of payments he received from the Ukrainian govt before and during President Viktor Yanukovych’s tenure.”

And I’ll be dammed—— that’s pretty much what Mueller indicted Manafort for.

<><> Even though Manafort’s activities preceded, and had nothing whatsoever to do with, Trump’s campaign.

<><> Rosenstein wrote the memo six days AFTER Mueller ordered the armed raid of Manafort’s house in the dead of night.

Not hard to conclude all these vultures are waiting in the wings for Trump to “sit down” with Mueller.......memo pads at the ready.

...... memo pads at the ready.

If he does have an interview, the president should have his people make a video recording of the entire process.

Trump should insist on immunity or he’ll plead the fifth.

Trump should direct Atty General Sessions to inform Mueller officially that, since Sessions recused himself from matters involving Russia specifically, and this was the basis for appointing Special Counsel, that the scope of Mueller’s work must be narrowly limited to those areas from which Sessions has recused. All other subjects remain the responsibility of the Atty General’s office.

Trumps attorneys should do all the asking of mueller, why did you not recuse yourself after such atrocious lack of transparency, we find you sir have an agenda apart from the truth and spirit of the law, and remove you from the position of special counsel
