An Air Force F-16 jet crashed Wednesday at Nellis Air Force Base outside of Las Vegas, defense officials told Fox News.

The status of the pilot, or pilots, was not immediately clear.

In a statement, the Air Force said, “Emergency responders are on the scene. As soon as additional details become available, they will be provided. The accident is under investigation."

The jet crashed around 10:30 a.m. during routine training at Nevada Test and Training Range, officials said.

This is one of the reasons we had to have the $$$ for defense. I bet my eye teeth that this accident is due to faulty maintenance or going way beyond a needed service. Blame Obama for this.

Or a low time pilot because flight time is far too low.

A very high % of these accidents have been equipment related.

Unless it was a training accident from some difficult maneuver, I guarantee it was worn out equipment failure..................

This! An analogue is a guy with plenty total time but no currency due to flight time cuts.

“The status of the pilot, or pilots, was not immediately clear.”

Mr. Lucas Tomlinson, are you too lazy to do minimal research into how many pilots fly a F-16?

Lord, guard and guide the men who fly
Through the great spaces in the sky
Be with them always in the air,
In darkening storms or sunlight fair;
Oh, hear us when we lift our prayer,
For those in peril in the air!

Eternal Father, grant, we pray,
To all Marines, both night and day,
The courage, honor, strength, and skill
Their land to serve, thy law fulfill;
Be thou the shield forevermore
From every peril to the Corps.

I was just thinking this is happening way too often. Hopefully with new $ going to the military they can catch up on some maintenance and equipment upgrades

Ironic that you would use that image, the F-16 crash turned out to be a Thunderbirds pilot.

The chances of equipment failure is very low within The Thunderbirds, they have the best of the best in the entire group.

Not saying that it’s impossible but very low probability.

I hate to say it but most likely Pilot error.

IIRC one time one of the Pilots screwed up on setting the Altimeter for the Base of the day. He punched out just as the plane belly slammed the ground.

There have been engine failures but not often.

RIP Sir and Thank You for Your Service.
