Congress set to battle over food stamps work requirement...

Lawmakers are poised this month to wage a major battle over the House version of the Farm Bill, which will call for work requirements in the federal food stamp program that serves the poor. ( the vast majority of Farm Bill funds spending is on food stamps)

Democrats are staunchly opposed to Conaway’s plan to add a 20-hour work or job training requirement for some able-bodied recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the formal name for the food stamp program............In the 2014 legislation, SNAP’s 10-year cost was $756 billion, or 80% of the entire $956 billion bill.

The federal government requires 20 hours of work for able-bodied food stamp recipients, but most states are able to waive the requirement.

The next Farm Bill would end the waiver allowances.

Our standard of living has fallen so far that many people working low-wage jobs qualify for food stamps.

In Missouri a single mother with one kid gets food stamps if she makes less than $11 an hour. That is about the average wage in 14 or 15 counties in Missouri, and more than the average wage in 2.

I’ve made the request to both Nebraska’s senators, in person and by written letter, at least half a dozen times over the course of 13 YEARS to separate the SNAP portion from the Farm portion. I always get the same reply, no matter who holds the office ... Well, we cannot do that because the Democrats will never pass the bill.

Lets see: we have a Republican majority in both houses of Congress, and a Republican president ... Of course, BITCH McUseless is owned by “BIG whatever,” (BIG AG, BIG PHARMA, USCC, etc) so he’ll never do anything to end the filibuster and allow a simple majority vote - worthless POS that he is. However, that is no reason for senators from AG states to stop trying to split the “Farm” bill into two stand-alone entities.

Of course they won’t - because the dirty truth is that the AG states are likely getting a kickback from the federal welfare scam.

The way I see it, farmers and ranchers should be made to take the same risk as the rest of us. If they can’t accept the odds, then they should not be in the business of agriculture. The AG sector should be treated no differently than any other. But, of course, they have this arrogant self-serving notion that the world revolves around them, and that their sh*t smells like freshly baked cinnamon buns.

There are very limited openings for PhD's in African studies.

In Michigan the work requirement is an old one, but, as with Unemployment ("Unenjoyment") the requirement is merely to document that one looked for a job and participated in the job-seeking workshop conducted by the welfare office.

I’m going to guess that the work requirement will reduce the rolls by quite a bit. I think a lot were working off the books, plus there are a number who are signed up under multiple identities.

I suspect working parents with 2 kids would qualify for food stamps in most states (if their jobs are low-wage); the standards for food stamps are much lower than food stamps and other freebies.
