A third person who experienced severe bleeding after using synthetic marijuana has died in Illinois, health officials confirmed.

There are now 107 people in central Illinois and the Chicago area who experienced severe bleeding after using the synthetic pot, often called spice, K2 or fake weed, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

“Each day we’ve seen the number of cases rise,” said director of the IDPH Nirav D. Shah, M.D., J.D. "Synthetic cannabinoids are unsafe. They are not regulated and people don’t know what chemicals may be in them, like rat poison. While efforts are underway to get the contaminated drugs out of circulation, it’s possible they could re-emerge. We urge people not to use synthetic cannabinoids now or ever."

This death comes after three Chicago convenience store clerks were charged earlier this the month for allegedly selling the synthetic cannabinoids laced with the known rodent poison, according to police.

Marijuana use can lead to the development of problem use, known as a ‘marijuana use disorder’, which takes the form of addiction in severe cases. ...... data suggest that 30 % of those who use marijuana may have some degree of marijuana use disorder..... People who begin using marijuana before the age of 18 are 4 to 7 times more likely to develop a marijuana use disorder than adults.

Marijuana use disorders are often associated with dependence—in which a person feels withdrawal symptoms when not taking the drug..... People who use marijuana frequently often report irritability, mood and sleep difficulties, decreased appetite, cravings, restlessness, and/or various forms of physical discomfort that peak within the first week after quitting and last up to 2 weeks... Marijuana dependence occurs when the brain adapts to large amounts of the drug by reducing production of and sensitivity to its own endocannabinoid neurotransmitters.

Dr. J. Wesley Boyd, writing for Psychology Today, explains that marijuana is known to be addictive because regular users who stop using this drug experience withdrawal. However, in most cases, the withdrawal is mild compared to other drugs, which falsely leads some users and the public to doubt marijuana’s addictiveness. Dr. Boyd notes that many marijuana users will not display signs of psychological addiction, but some will. For illustrative purposes, Dr. Boyd discusses one patient’s case. The individual, in his late 20s and a construction worker, compulsively smoked marijuana before work and in all the hours after work leading up to his bedtime. Although this individual wanted to stop, he had grown so psychologically addicted to smoking marijuana – it was his main relationship and his only recreational interest – that he was unable to stop without getting professional treatment.

Denial of the extent of the marijuana use may occur as a way to protect the ongoing use. Individuals who are psychologically addicted to marijuana will not want anyone to interfere in the consumption.....

Okay. You like the NIH when they say something that confirms your preconceived notions. How about when they say something with which you disagree?

Personally, I don’t trust the NIH at all.

Here is a recent example of some of the crap the NIH is funding:

The NIH isn’t the only resource which confirms those findings....addiction centers and various other chemical addiction science attests to this. Try google and you;ll find plenty. Though all agree there is a difference between dependency and addiction and important to understand that difference.

Either way one looks at it.....Substance abuse of any kind starts with dependency in one form or another.

Indeed I am, although, I’m borrowing a non-sarcastic comment made by an antigun politician idiot (although I repeat myself). Colorado has legalized recreational marijuana, and to my knowledge there haven’t been any deaths here from rat poison represented as weed - considering that one can even grow it oneself (in which case one will know its ingredients with certainty).

You don’t need to theorize—you could simply read the article, which you clearly didn’t.

"Doing any street drug today is suicide. 60,000 people die annually from doing heroin or cocaine that is laced with fentanyl......."

They are lacing pot with fentanyl now too. The best friend of my friend's son died 2 weeks ago. They smoked pot occasionally. 21 years old. What a waste.

Holy cow! Whoa!!! Sorry to hear thet. This is outrageous, Trump should declare a national emergency and to hell with congress and get that wall built ASAP and absolutely get the military on the border, and put out the message anyone seen crossing will be shot on site. Imagine the outrage if 168 people were killed every day in mass shootings, the left would riot yet the support this open borders insanity. And all we get is constant Trump bashing now with this pig traitor Comey going around bashing him further. Well excuse me, Trump is trying to save LIVES
