Jerry Brown's work to seal his climate legacy is only half done
Los Angeles Times ^ | April 11, 2018 | By Bill McKibben

Posted on 04/12/2018 6:04:39 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

It seems a little churlish to prod Jerry Brown on carbon issues. He's done as much as any leader in the world to move forward on the climate and energy crises that are the defining challenges of our time.

All of California's environmental measures have been aimed at reducing the demand for energy, and none at slowing down the production of fossil fuel. Supply and demand are two equal halves of this fight; if we don't recognize that fact we simply will not solve the climate conundrum.

With his time in elective office winding down, Brown has the rare chance to set an example that truly will never be forgotten: He has it in his power to begin the strategic phase-out of the oil and gas industry.

Because California's future economy depends far more on green technology than on oil drilling, it should start confidently.

And because California's green-minded governor never plans to run for office again, Brown can make it all happen without worry about the political clout of the oil industry.

Brown has summoned the world to the Bay Area in September for a global climate summit. If, in the months beforehand, he signals his willingness to take real steps to address the supply side of the fossil fuel equation, that gathering will be a moment of dramatic new hope for progress on global warming, a hope that the Trump-addled world badly needs. If he doesn't, the longtime student of Zen will leave the stage to the sound of one hand clapping.

And the media wants it pushed by one man, regardless of the people’s will. How very communist of them.

“He’s done as much as any leader in the world to move forward on the climate and energy crises that are the defining challenges of our time. “

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a wonderful example of why the F students in science transition to journalism.

Sounds good but the current reality is that there is enough push back to disrupt his green plans

His sanctuary state effort is blowing up in his face. Once they get a firm handle on the process, Brown is over

De-industrialization.

Here is a thought. Support this effort, explaining rather loudly that if California is going to be demographically reconquered by Mexico we want to return it to Mexico in its original condition as an agrarian state with no industry. Sort of a Morgenthau plan for California.

And we can also work in the point that we should not fear famines as they are natural events and serve to keep the population in sustainable limits.

the climate and energy crises that are the defining challenges of our time...

I had to laugh out loud at what must have been the DEFCON 1 level of stupidity underlying that assertion.

Then I noticed that the author of the article is Bill McKibben, who is indeed widely recognized to be the living epitome of DEFCON 1 level stupidity.

Case closed.

This dog is hoarse from barking at the caravan, to no avail. We aren’t going backwards to please enviro-nuts.

They also have no clue that almost 30% of all oil use is NON-FUEL in nature and growing.

Which country is the only one to lower it’s CO2 emissions for 8 years straight, while using more oil than anyone else?

Keep after those windmills Don Quixote!

"....He has it in his power to begin the strategic phase-out of the oil and gas industry....."

Are these idiots, idiots?

Let's just phaseout the oil and gas industry that provide fuel and materials for everything we know as a culture. Everything we use has some kind of oil or gasoline product in it.

All of those LA drivers, especially, will love that the fuels for their vehicles will be phased out.

They won't have to drive two hour commutes one-way to get to work anymore.

That's because they won't have jobs anymore. Their employers will close because of lack of fuels to run the companies.

But just think of all the smog that would be eliminated if people stayed and home and lived on Kalifornia welfare.

Liberals make good things bad. Then proceed to make the bad things even worse. Their legacy is to destroy our culture and society as Founded.

“Ban cars. People should walk or use horses”

But just think of all the methane emissions from the horses and their excrement all over the streets. Brown would be happy if we all lived in dirt floor huts and never went anywhere. He is a loon and so is the LA Times writer.
