Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) grilled Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo during his Senate confirmation hearing Thursday about Pompeo's stated opposition to gay marriage.
Booker was referring to a speech Pompeo made in 2015 while he was a Kansas congressman, which cited a prayer delivered by the Rev. Joe Wright.
"America had worshiped other Gods and called it multiculturalism. Wed endorsed perversion and called it an alternative lifestyle, Pompeo said.
"Those are your words," Booker said to Pompeo. "Is being gay a perversion?"
Pompeo replied by stating he had a "clear view" on whether gay marriage was "appropriate" while he was a politician in Kansas, and that he stands by those views today.
Booker continued to press Pompeo, saying he knows same-sex couples within the State Department who were married under Pompeo's leadership.
"You do not believe that should be allowed?" Booker said.
Pompeo answered by saying he treats gay couples who work at the CIA with "the exact same set of rights" as anyone else.
He concluded by saying, "My respect for every individual -- regardless of their sexual orientation -- is the same."
Booker finished by saying to Pompeo that he doesn't think his beliefs reflect the nation's values.

Why not ask Booker to define a perversion and give examples. Don’t allow him to use crimes on the books as an example.
I will refrain from judging and leave the dictionary definition to stand. Marriage in its intended state is a union intended to procreate and continue the species. This is simply not possible between same sexes.
A little off-topic:
My wife saw a book that was assigned for a fourth grade grandchild to read. It is about famous women, one page per woman. My wife flipped through it. One page featured a transgender child and describes the problems he/she faces.
Racist ahole
He's dumb enough, vain enough and pain-in-the ass enough to fill Obama's shoes.
The moral view is irrelevant to legal rights. Gambling, prostitution, smoking and many other things are considered immoral by many people. Do we test politicians fitness for office by their moral views on such topics? No. Because we know that what we think morally is often not the same as what we recognize the law allows. Pompeo can have a moral view that being “gay” is not moral. That does not mean that Pompeo is from that going to act in a discrimination manner toward a “gay” person; NOT because of his moral view, but because of who he views the law.
The slimy Booker was just trying to goad Pompeo into taking an “unpopular view” that has zero, zip, nothing to do with how he will conduct his official duties.
What has changed?
Note: The bible says there is nothing new under the sun.
I’d ask Booker to define perversion. I doubt that he thinks it has a definition anymore.
