His manager confirmed it:
Link Sad. I liked him a lot more in his movies than in his TV shows. I think he had greater range as an actor than people give him credit for.

He camped out on our military installation about 15 years ago. He was filming "mail call" and got a ride in an f-15. He then addressed the entire base populace + families in our base theater (1000 + people). He offered an R rated review of what he thought of liberals, politics (2003) CNN and Barbara Streisand. He compared a private act of Barbara Streisand to a woodpecker hitting your lower abdomen....in front of children.......Even the Base Commander could not stop laughing. We did not receive one complaint although I was sure they would come.
He stopped in the club afterward and did not have one drink...everyone loved him. He left to hunt with his brother around Mt Shasta.
What a joy...I cried when he turned gay in a later movie but actually watched him last night in seven.
