Ulterior motive? I'll say it's outright blatant, just like everything else that goes on in California, political or no.

I didn’t know it was possible to further hurt California’s GOP.

I rather they just split the coastal section off into a new country and leave the rest behind.

No, they mean it would hurt the GOP on a national level by adding four tyrant collectivist senators and giving Kalifornia four more electoral votes in POTUS elections.

New states may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new states shall be formed or erected within the jurisdiction of any other state; nor any state be formed by the junction of two or more states, or parts of states, without the consent of the legislatures of the states concerned as well as of the Congress.
So is California going to ignore Article 4, Section 3, Clause 1 of the Constitution just like they are ignoring Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4 and the Supremacy Clause of Article 6? (Well, perhaps I shouldn’t ask.)

This is bad idea. The lines are drawn purely for political reasons, with no sense of natural boundries.

If the move is purely to seize control of the federal government, then the federal government shouldn’t recognize them as new states.

The Dems hate the United States.

Why form a separate state?

The Dems should form a separate nation!

Then we crush them and march them into the ocean.

Everybody’s happy.

Not gonna happen.

The Democrats would have to agree to break up, NY, IL and MI to create 6 safe GOP seats to balance four new seats they would get from breaking up CA.

There is just no way that’s in the cards. When pigs can fly.

Puerto Rico voted to become a state. Hasn't been accepted by the Congress. Ther'e's no reason to believe this stunt will work, even if it passes. And like so many other things from La-La, te potential for unintended results is large. Thanks Patriot777.

Nothing but a scheme to Add 4 Rat Senators and 2 Rat Governors we’d probably lose the Senate for a generation.

Same reason DC’s bid for statehood has never passed Congress.

Democrats would get two safe US Senate seats out of it.

What’s in it for the GOP? On second thought, don’t ask.

Looks like the rest of Calif would be red. I say turn new England’s 6 states into one. 12 Senators become 2. California’s 2 become 4. 46 states. Red +1. Blue -10. Like the rats will let it happen.

If the RATS are pushing it, they KNOW they will pickup 2 more Senate Seats.
Nothing happens in CA without the blessing of the CA DNC.

The split they’re proposing doesn’t make a lot a sense for self determination. It’s not along ideological lines, which to me is the only reason to do so.

No. They only want this to gain more leftist Senators.

I hadn’t thought too much about it having a PARTISAN political motive until we all saw the county-by-county lines of the breakup that is being proposed.

Mainly, what is to remain of California, comprising many counties along the coast, does not include what I think should very naturally be included, taking in more of the “Liberal” “west coast” instead of, as the proposal does, plops some of the Liberal coastal counties into the other two segments, Northern and Southern California, which might otherwise be more “Red”.

By making the “cut off” of the northern end of “California” to include Montery County but no further, it cuts off the naturally Liberal counties north of that but below Marin and lumps them into what would otherwise likely be a “Red” Northern California. I would add the counties of San Benito, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara (Silicon Valley), San Mateo, Alameda (Oakland), San Francisco and Contra Costa to “California”. I would also add Bakersfield County (immediately north of Los Angeles County) to California.

By removing those counties from Northern and Southern California, I think those two counties have a better chance of registering “red”, and leaving the majority of “Liberal” California together and to itself.

Anyone for making a new formal breakup plan???
