At Business Insider's IGNITION conference, Scott Galloway gave a blistering presentation on why "The Big Four" — Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google — should be broken up. Galloway is a professor of marketing at the NYU Stern School of Business and the author of "The Four: The Hidden DNA of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google."

I can't believe the responses here.

Go out and compete against them. Whatever happened to competition?

Not so long ago Apple was in the toilet. Google offered itself to Yahoo. Classmates.com and even FR in some aspects were among the first social media sites.

The Internet is still free and wide-open. Learn code, think up a cool website name and compete against these four.

And stop complaining that Google has no Memorial Day Doodle.

Exactly what should Apple be broken up for?
Samsung sells vastly more smart phones than Apple does and Apple sells vastly less laptops than Dell,HP and Lenovo do.

I am a bit disturbed by it as well, but I suspect it is one of those things that people are responding to emotionally (as in anger emotion) and not thinking it through.

We don’t want to do this.

Because it will eventually be used against conservatives if we do.

I am not familiar with Best Buy and Wal*Mart shoppers leveraging them against each other.

It will sweetly creep into your study of imagination. Then shall you mourn...

Our local high-end AV, stereo, and video store just solved that problem by holding their “Going Out of Business” sale. 40 years at that location. Gone. One of the greatest camera stores ever shuttered it’s doors a couple years ago.

B&H Photo has cracked the code. Super online presence, smart people available to chat or talk, no shipping and no sales tax out of state. Super, no-questions-asked return policy, too. Very FAST web site — as fast as Amazon.

I just bought a new WiFi router, new printer, and two toner cartridges from them.

The owners are devout Jews, so Friday sundown to Sunday morning you can put items in your basket, but you cannot check out.

It,took me five clicks and under a minute to buy the new WiFi router! I did all the research beforehand on several other sites.

Expect to see lots more nail salons in all the available retail space!

I don’t personally have as much of problem with Apple as Google, Facebook and Amazon, in that order.

All media companies should be broken up.

That sounds like a morality problem with the customers. I usually buy from the store, and I certainly would after somebody went through all that effort for me.

As Mr. Galloway said himself, one of the biggest problems is the people in the mirror.

Any discussion of breaking up the largest and most dangerous monopoly of them all -

The US government?

They have sufficient Market Power to be treated as monopolies.

They have abused their position to silence political talk that they don’t like. That’s even beyond what Flagler and Rockefeller were doing that got Standard Oil broken up

I can see them being regulated as common carriers- required to treat all comers equally.

There is competition - but when you're up against entrenched entities that have benefited from billions of dollars worth of free advertising from the MSM the playing field isn't exactly even. How did 'google' become a verb?

They became a verb by making the best product. Their search engine. The lamestream media had nothing to do with it.

It became a verb because it was ‘pushed’. And if you don’t think positive comments in the MSM aren’t worth anything your opinion isn’t either.
