AT&T (T) this week said it lost 187,000 pay-TV customers, including satellite TV subscribers and its U-verse landline business.

AT&T's DirecTV Now internet streaming service added 312,000 customers. But AT&T garners much lower profit margins from video streaming.

Still need the cable company’s internet to stream though. I predict rates will increase.

Having owned a small cable TV company I can say that the markup on tv service is about 300%. The markup on internet service is about 1000%. The markup on digital voice services is about 400%. Which services are more profitable to deliver?

Reminds me of the days when I had a C-Band dish, before everything went digital. My yearly programming back then cost about what my monthly programming costs now with DirecTV.

Yup. They are caught in a death spiral. Locked into long-term rights fees for programming deals with a declining subscriber base. So they are forced to raise rates on the remaining subscribers, causing more of them to cut and run as well.

If there wasn’t 5 others in this house cable tv would have been gone years ago.

that is their hook....hard to convince the whole household to quit the racket.

That explains my gut level distain of Cox cable internet service. In Ukraine cell service with 3GB data is $1.38 per month.

And you had more channels than could be watched including 1/2 that only Melania Trump would have been able to understand.
