Commentary: Rod Rosenstein is not above the law
The Hill ^ | May 3, 2018 | BY MARK PENN

Posted on 05/03/2018 1:44:41 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s reaction to reports of possible impeachment for failing to respond to congressional subpoenas was to proclaim that the Justice Department “will not be extorted.”

I suppose he meant to say, “Only we here at the Justice Department do the extorting, with special counsels, daylight raids of people’s attorneys, bankrupting people with legal fees, threats to prosecute family members, and questionable wiretapping of Americans.”

Now, quite stunningly, Rosenstein, who has been behind Justice Department stonewalling of Congress for months, dares threaten even Congress for merely carrying out its fully protected duty. Talk about thin-skinned. We need to now restore the true, unbiased and fairly administered rule of law here that answers the question of whether Donald Trump colluded with the Russian government without attempting to trap the president into obstruction of justice for a nonexistent crime or turning this into a circus.

We need to get to the bottom of what Comey did in all of these investigations, and whether they were compromised. We must have both tasks carried out fully and fairly. It’s clear now that Rod Rosenstein, with his comments, is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Mark Penn served as pollster and adviser to President Clinton from 1995 to 2000, including during his impeachment. He is chairman of the Harris Poll and author of “Microtrends Squared.”

Sure, Rosenstein can THEORETICALLY be impeached. But practically... no way.

There are no checks on his behavior with Sessions recused, except for un-recusal, or firing.

If Trump won’t fire him for fear of blowback, what are the chances of a bitterly divided Congress doing so through two houses, with the final act being a Senate trial requiring a 2/3 vote for conviction?

Zero.

We will never know because the repubs would never allow it. Even if the repubs had 80% of both the house and senate, they would do nothing. The republicans are behind this witch hunt. You do know that comey, rosenwiesel, mueller and sessions are all republicans, right?

Wow! Mark Penn again? This could get ugly. The ‘progressives’ aren’t gonna like any position that will contradict their agenda.
Verdict first! Trial later!

Of course the Republicans will never allow it. The GOP-e is strong enough that the party is split. Besides, it will choke off any other congressional business.

Also, the fact that those guys claim to be Republicans is not very convincing. After all, Comey got an easy Director appointment to the board of Lockheed Martin after he helped the Clintons. It netted him $6 million over 5 years.

Mueller is out for Mueller. Read Gohmert’s dissertation on how Mueller has cut corners to get prosecutorial advantage so he’d look good. Rosenstein plays both sides of the aisle, regardless of his stated affiliation.

Sessions is harder to figure out. He’s either so painfully honorable in his recusal that it hurts, while he goes about his business in the background, or he’s a Trump saboteur. As far as I’m concerned, the jury’s still out on that one. Q likes him. Then again, Q isn’t down on Mueller, either.

Why doesn’t Trump order Rosenstein to deliver unredacted copies of the appointment letter of the special council, to Congress. He isn’t firing Rosenstein he would merely be ordering him to comply with a perfectly appropriate request from Congress which the executive is bound to do by the Articles of the Constitution.

Is Penn on the Trump Train, or what? LOL!

Hillary isn’t going to like this. Incredible, these last two letters from Penn.

Penn and Dershowitz are the only Liberals calling for ‘fairness’ and condemning the criminalizing of political behavior. They both understand there will be consequences, I believe.

Rod Rosenstein is as powerful as President Trump. Only Trump can solve the problem by firing him.. Sessions is totally useless so if Trump fires Rosenstein he should fire Sessions also.

Rod Hosenstein may not be above the law, but he IS beneath contempt.

If these bureaucrats don’t stop hosing our best president in my lifetime, it won’t end well. All’s I’m sayin’.

I anticipate the President will declassify the DOJ records to expose the entire saga as we get closer to November.

And then watch the Democrat heads explode as they are exposed as attempting a coup.

Dershowitz does have a more legitimate advantage over Penn, in that he is a well known and sold-out Libertarian, which is the excuse Dershowitz is actually using for sounding so shocked, SHOCKED, that there is GAMBLING in the house, when it comes to the JD/FBI, against Trump.

PENN, is wow! What the heck happened there? Did they turn this guy, or what? Penn was a player, who would love this stuff, slept soundly in bed with the jackboot thugs and corruptors, for ions.

Talk about skating on the edge of a cliff, after this he may find a horse’s head in that bed. Yikes!

Perhaps Penn knows the coming Horowitz and Huber reports are extremely devastating and is laying the defense that Rosenweasel, Mueller, et al cannot be trusted and whatever is found by Horowitz and Huber is “fruit from the poisonous tree”.
