I find this action by Dick’s, hiring lobbyists, to be inexplicable. If they want to stop selling guns, stop selling guns. But to hire lobbyists is in essence getting into a different business for them. Those lobbyists do not come cheap. And Dick’s Sporting Goods is a brick-and-mortar retailer that is going to have to start selling more and more Chinese crap if it wants to maintain margins. So for them to spend 250000 or $400,000 on lobbyists is absurd.

The GCA of 1968 was the beginning of the end. When Western Auto stopped selling guns, the rest of the sporting goods soon followed.

Before 68 you could buy an anti tank gun and have the postman deliver it to you COD!

Sea Monkeys too!

It was all cash on the barrelhead.

Don’t recall any kids shooting up the place or sea monkeys gone wild LOL

And very overpriced too.

And Dicks has escaped social controversy.

No, they haven't.

And don’t forget to add Gander Mountain and Yeti to $hit list.

Gander Mountain no longer exists. Bankrupt. It's remains were purchased by Camping World, who is opening some locations as Gander Outdoors.

I liked Gander Mountain. They would buy almost any firearm. Their firearms display let you handle the weapons.

I have a Revelation 20 gauge which I think was Western Auto’s store brand.

I am pretty sure it was made by Stevens. It is a little better than average as it has an ejector instead of just an extractor.

Someone gave me 20 boxes of AA skeet loads and I no longer had a 20 gauge so I bought this one at a pawn shop for $50. It was rusty but a coat of oil removed all of it and it has shown no signs of rusting again.

The little thing fits me unusually well and despite it being a full choke, it is easy to hit with.

One odd thing about it, is it was proof tested which most American made arms are not., at least I thought they weren’t. I think they are just shot to make sure they work.

That's nothing -- when the shareholders get done with the current board for their abandonment of their fiduciary responsibilities, the latter will be lucky if they aren't hounded into early graves or prison. Thanks aomagrat.

I still have the Barlow knife. The BB gun was around until 2005 (my dad had commandeered it for his back yard workshop, from which he could harass the squirrels raiding his pecan trees). Katrina's storm surge put it under water for almost a month, ending a 40-year run. I was tempted to mount it on a wooden plaque, kind of like those rifle relics that are dug out of the desert southwest.

I think my first fishing rig succumbed to a real "boating accident" when my cousin borrowed it. Our next-door neighbor was a Western Auto franchise co-owner, so Dad sent a lot of business his way. Lawnmowers, bicycles, outboards - and of course, auto parts. I miss those days, too.

If I ever shorted a stock, they would be it... making a bet stopping other competitors from selling Firearms is really a stretch of a bet to place. More likely this will backfire tremendously and hurt their business if Amazon wasn’t hurting them already this will be a doozy. You Can’t fix stupid.
