Some areas are more similar than others. The north east coast stands out for its racism and hypocrisy about racism.
When people from the South insist everyone is more racist than they are, even if they never spent a single night in an area, never mind living there and interacting with people, it sounds too much like they are saying “WE’RE NOT RACIST! WE’RE NOT RACIST! WE’RE NOT RACIST!”
Look.
Not everyone up North thinks everyone in the South is racist. They don’t.
Sure, the do have those up here who think that way.
And there are those down there who think the opposite.
And it is my experience, having been born in the South and lived in the South, as well as living in the North, that...Southerners aren’t any more racist than anyone else.
Sure. The South has racist people, so does the North. And the Midwest. And the West. And the Southwest. And Hawaii. And Alaska.
There are good and bad people everywhere. I know. I’ve seen it.
As for PK Subban, the fellow another poster mentioned...I have seen him play. I played hockey for many years, and went to a number of games, including games that Subban played in.
People didn’t yell at him from the crowd or hate him because he was black, although I am sure there were those. They are everywhere. They yelled at him from the crowd and hated him because he played for the Montreal Canadians, legacy of a rivalry.
There are a lot of people who subscribe to your sentiments, and it just isn’t so. It becomes an echo chamber, where one person says it, other people chime in agreeing, and everyone agrees, but most have them have usually never spent more time in the areas than it took to change planes in an airport.
And by the way, this is nothing personal against you. I have read your posts on FR, and I respect your opinion.
I just get tired of hearing that particular slander, just like I am sure folks down in the South get tired of hearing that slander.
