Finding out too late that you have cancer — thanks to ObamaCareIt's t

Beware: Many breast- and prostate-cancer patients are getting diagnosed late in the game because of ObamaCare’s skimpy cancer-screening regulations.

Remember when President Barack Obama repeatedly told Americans that greedy doctors were over-testing and over-treating them, and federal rules were needed to stop it? Now the evidence is in: Some of those rules are killing us.

Inadequate cancer screening is forcing women to undergo mastectomies and men to endure aggressive treatments with side effects. Many could have avoided these outcomes, as well as an increased risk of death, if they’d been diagnosed earlier.

Last Friday, Dr. Elisa Port, chief of breast surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, presented compelling evidence at the American Society of Breast Surgeons’ annual meeting about the harm done to women because of the Obama administration’s stingy approach to screening.

Starting in the 1980s, American women age 40 and over were advised to get annual mammograms. The result: Women diagnosed with breast cancer had smaller, more treatable tumors after annual mammograms became the standard of care. But in 2009, under Obama, the United States Preventative Services Task Force declared women were getting too many mammograms. The USPSTF changed the recommendation from yearly starting at age 40 to once every two years starting at age 50.

Worse, the Affordable Care Act gave that task force new clout, mandating that insurance companies pay for tests it recommends with no out-of-pocket costs. Not so for other tests. Millions of women were suddenly misled into thinking the USPSTF’s meager new screening schedule was enough. Now the dire consequences are emerging.

“It’s time for full repeal.”

But oh no. We had a shot at it but John McJagoff ( may he croak soon), Lisa Bitchkowski and Susan Colonoscopy (not to mention all the filthy democrats) were too cool to allow that.

I probably wouldn't be dead yet, but I'd be well on the way.

I just had a biopsy done on my prostate yesterday and anxiously awaiting on the results. Very glad for the PSA test.

Same for my husband. He was 50 when they caught it. It was aggressive. They got it with surgery, but it was stage 3 and just outside his prostate.

Because they can test the cancer cells to see how aggressive they are. My husband’s had just breached the prostate. If he had waited a year (or less) I’m sure it would have metastacized. There is no chemotherapy for prostate cancer.

"It's time for full repeal.

Not that progressives actually care about the harm they're doing. "

I expect to be dead at some point whether or not I get the test.

Mammograms increase substantially the risk that an in-situation cancer will be sqeezed past its barrier, into healthy tissue. Radiology has been debating how to avoid informing women. It it the same reason FNAs are used, as the previous biopsies were spreading cancer.
I am highly suspicious of this articles claim. Mammograms have not been shown to decease mortality, but they could be deadly.

.
Chemo is a waste of lives and a cash cow for the pharma poison manufacturers.

Metatrol is the only realistic choice, but a life long attack on body acidity is the best prevention.

You were blessed.

I turn 70 later this year. 4 years ago I had my first PSA test, it was already at 24. Biopsies were done and confirmed cancer. Each year I have another PSA test. About a month ago it was up to a PSA of 60. I was sent to another doc for a second opinion. This doc told me that surgery was no longer an option and referred me a cancer clinic. At the cancer clinic the doc informed me that radiation was not recommended at this time. He is referring me for additional scans to see if it had metastasized. If it hadn’t spread to other places then drugs, hormones, might help but those drugs would chemically castrate me.

I’ll go in for the scans, then another biopsy, but after that I’ll just ride it out. I will not choose the hormone treatment. I have heart and lung issues and I am a diabetic. These additional issues are under control at the moment, but in the doctors judgement, I’ll still die of something other than prostrate cancer within 5-8 or 10 years.

I sure wish the cancer had been found much sooner.

That’s disturbing. I have my annual mammogram next week, four years after single mastectomy. I’ve worried about the basic x-ray issue, but the idea that it may push anything bad into healthy tissue scares me.

Then there’s the fact that my annual mammo did detect my cancer when it was teeny tiny. They’re very sensitive now and detect earlier than before.

Is there some scan that will provide the same results?

I have a neighbor who had enlarged prostate. But he did not go to doctor (don’t know what the regulations were)

but he got a kidney infection as a result. The infection damaged his kidneys and now two yrs later he needs a donated kidney and is getting dialysis 3x week until he gets a kidney.

Go to doctor.

Yes, there are more advanced and expensive imagery studies. Read the facts about the mammogram debate before you cancel your appt. I don’t think you should take anyone’s word for it.. especially not mine. Be fully informed. Mammograms are big money makers.
For me, I made peace with my life decades ago. I am willing to risk just doing self exams.

I know many people saved by chemo including my best friend’s hubby who had stage 4 non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

I’ve managed to talk my doctor into justifying an annual PSA test. So far, so good. It’s worth the effort.
