AOKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma's Republican Governor Mary Fallin vetoed a bill that would have allowed adults to carry handguns without a permit and signed another that permits religious organizations to exclude same sex couples from adoptions, managing to anger both gun and gay rights groups on the same day.

The twin actions announced late Friday were among more than a dozen decisions on legislation taken by the term-limited governor as she clears the decks in her waning months in office.

They also followed a tumultuous session of the Legislature that saw striking teachers march on the Capitol, prompting lawmakers to raise taxes including on the state's powerful oil and gas industry, to fund increases in education spending.

I’m all for 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms but I think conceal or open carry without proper training of laws and regs is a bad idea.

I live in Maine, which passed Constitutional Carry in 2015.

Gov. Paul LePage signed the bill, which was passed by the democrat controlled Maine House and the Republican controlled state Senate.

The Maine State Troopers were in favor of the Constitutional Carry bill. They were happy not to have to bother with background checks and other paperwork.

Plus, the troopers knew it would not be a problem and so far, no problems at all.

You shouldn’t need rights to carry a weapon without a permit if your an adult and not a felon!

“I’m all for 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms but...”

That’s how gun-grabbers talk.

Politically..you always sign this type of law...you think the other side is gonna go easy on any gun law if they get the chance?. ..she has to know what the left is about on guns..Guns just seem to rattle most females and this decision just screams it...ugh.

“But I believe that Oklahomans are just not as smart or even tempered as those who live in those other states with constitutional carry, who trust their citizens to behave themselves and not act like drunken monkeys,” she said.

Well; that's the end of her career. She might as well have used dynamite to blow it to smithereens. She will never get elected for anything again and she won't be remembered well at all.

What a supremely stupid woman.

Government can’t take rights away; they can only violate those rights. What would they do if everyone ignored the stupid laws they sometimes make? They do govern by our consent; correct?

This is a fundamental pillar of our society the left dismisses at their peril.

“What would they do if everyone ignored the stupid laws they sometimes make?”

Selectively enforce them against anyone they choose.

Kudos to the MSP. Razzberries to others =>

“The bill also was opposed by the Maine Chiefs of Police Association, Maine Sheriffs’ Association and individual police departments in several of Maine’s largest cities.

The only law enforcement agency to publicly support the bill was the Maine State Police.”

In defense of the Maine sheriffs, they deserve applause for what they did in 2016.

That year, on the November ballot, was a ballot initiative funded by Michael Bloomberg which would have banned the private sale of firearms in Maine.

Bloomturd spent a boatload of his own money, whereas the opposition, “No on 3,” had little money to spend.

The police chiefs of Maine supported the Bloomturd ballot initiative and some of them appeared in commercials, in uniform, supporting it’s passage.

The sheriff’s of Maine were opposed to Bloomturd’s gun-grabbing ballot initiative and they also appeared on TV commercials in uniform, often in groups, urging voters to reject Bloomturd’s plan to end the private sale of guns in Maine.

Election night November 2016....Donald Trump won the election, Donald Trump carried Maine’s Second Congressional district by 10 points for one Electoral Vote, and Michael Bloomberg’s “Yes on 3” gun-grabbing initiative was defeated. A good night.

LOL. Man, you sure uncovered and bagged a lot of gullible freepers with that one. Congrats!

I’m amazed that freepers can be so naive as to believe that she actually said something that preposterous.

It used to be fun counting how many fishes john Semmens would snag with his semi-satire until the humorless admins forced him to put in big letters “Don’t believe anything of what I’m about to say”.

Selectively enforce them against anyone they choose.

If you mean the police then that could turn ugly quick. Depending on the person it could range from a basic civil disobedience to a full fledged fire fight. I'm not so sure reasonable LEO's would want to go there. Besides, at some point, the jails are full of the constituents with no room for real criminals.

I do get your point though. What you said is likely where the problems would start (other than the pols making the stupid law to begin with).

If you want conceal carry, attend a training class to learn rules about where and when to carry and get a photo ID that tells law enforcement you have been trained. How do you tell the guy with a concealed or open carried weapon is not a convicted felon or illegal alien looking for a victim?

So why should a kid have to take driver’s training and take a test to be able to drive a car? Do you know anyone at all that you would be uncomfortable with carrying a weapon? How can you tell the person openly carrying a weapon, looking at you or a family member isn’t a convicted felon or sexual predator?
