I am still convinced that the Cuban government is going to implode at some point. The resumption of relations will make that happen sooner. However as Ive said before it will be slow. The thing that will open the eyes of the Cuban people will be when we resume relations and nothing changes. For decades the Castros have been using the US as their scapegoat. Its a convenient excuse for their inability to perform. Now they wont have that excuse. If they want to do business with the US then they need to produce something we want. And the government obviously cant do that. Private industry can.

Due to the large size of the island, and the little industrial development, coral reefs have thrived off the coasts, and few other people dive them.
I go often on mission trips, the real Cuba. Tourist go and buy a government tour at the airport. Its all a dog and pony show. People who do that don't go to Cuba, they go to the equivalent of a Cuba themed Disney ride.
For the Cigars and cheap whores ... once the fad surge was over and a cache was obtained and the STDs were realized the it all subsided.
ancient steam RRs and some Art Deco buildings, thats about it
There you go. The capitalist spirit will find a way no matter how pathetic the government is. Maybe you can make a buck setting up the tours.
At the time, it was not unusual to see a score of Haitians walking northbound, single-file, alongside the Palmetto Expressway. (Bags on women's heads: men in their characteristically long checkered shirts carrying suitcases). 'Bound for Palm Beach County, where a large population was housed and worked the sugar cane fields. (For "Big Sugar").
Thanks for the added info!
