I think it's because Bethune-Cookman is a historically black college. Although most of the students are black, this doesn't mean Bethune-Cookman bans white people from attending.
If you want to win at basketball, you will probably end up recruiting some black people to your college. If you want to win the golf championship, you will probably end up recruiting some white people. I don't see the problem here (other than the racism of having a "blacks only" golf competition in the first place).
