The White House says remains optimistic that a sit-down will take place between President Trump and Kim Jong-un, despite a flare-up in hostilities over joint military exercises the U.S. and South Korea are conducting.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters Wednesday morning that North Korean outrage was par for the course and the U.S. was moving ahead with preparations for a June 12 summit in Singapore.

'We're ready to meet, and if that happens that's great. And if it doesn't, we'll see what happens. We're still hopeful that the meeting will take place and we'll continue down that path,' she said moments before on Fox & Friends. 'If it doesn't, we'll continue the maximum pressure campaign that's ongoing.'

this is strictly about improving relations.

An improvement from what? Towards what? That place is the way it is because Kim and the Generals need it to be that way. From Kim's POV denuclearizing has the same effect as unification.

Bolton was clearing up the possibility of a misunderstanding. Kim could have been under the impression that all he had to do to denuke was lock his stuff up in a government warehouse.

Bolton’s comments made it clear that that was not how our understanding was going. The term non-reversible comes to mind but to the NK translation, this may not have come through as well as “Libya style”. So now there is no longer any misunderstanding.

We are not going through this because we want to go through it over and over again. Sorry Kim.

Yes, but he would keep his army and gradually have more food for his people. The upside is that he would be more appreciated with his people having full bellies.

And trade would lead to more electricity Etc. I understand that he would have a problem with his labor camps and police state philosophy, but that is not something that we did.

He can stay alive with a treaty with us which we would honor. His troops would have to control the population. And nukes were there to threaten us, his people were never the targets of anything except the secret police.

You are correct but Kim initially said the exercises could go on, now he does not see things like that. He initially said he would denuclearize, now he thinks— not like Libya. Do you think there is a translation problem? Or is this more like a person saying “me no comprendo”?

What I think is that he is testing Trump to see if there is any “give” anywhere. The truth is that Moon is more on the spot than Trump. His meeting has been cancelled. Moon can renege on the exercises and Trump would have to go along. He could say that he needs more time to prepare for the meeting with Kim., But it still amounts to a back peddle.

Kim is building a bazillion dollar resort development for his own people? I doubt it.

What is insincere about saying exactly what you want as the end result of negotiations? Bolton essentially repeated Trump when he (Trump)said there can be no deal without the complete denuclearization of NK.

The fat little Rocket Man holds no cards in this game.

There’s a link here talking about how hard it is to build anything in Seattle.

745 pages in their building code. You need both lawyers AND ‘fixers’.

I spent some time in that business. Talk about a euphemism. You have to bribe everyone. You have to contribute to everybody’s campaign, maximally. You don’t have a choice. You get phone calls from the front desk of the mayor’s office during office hours soliciting donations.

It’s not a miracle that anything gets built. It’s simple - you pay off everybody - both sides of the aisle.

With Seattle now, it is suddenly broken. You have Bernie-Bot socialists (the irony, the Sawant character was once married to a Microsoft millionaire and was not born in the US - yep, we imported this cancer):

“Sawant was born to Vasundhara and H. T. Ramanujam in Pune, India, in a Hindu middle-class family. Her mother is a retired principal and her father, who was a civil engineer, was killed by a drunk driver when Sawant was 13.[7] Sawant’s observations of poverty in her native country and her unhappiness with the Indian caste system helped shape her political views before her adoption of socialism. Sawant grew up in Mumbai where she later studied computer science and graduated with a B.Sc from the University of Mumbai in 1994. She married her husband Vivek, an engineer at Microsoft, and moved to the United States. Sawant’s husband filed for and obtained a legal divorce in 2014.[8] She remarried in August 2016 to Calvin Priest, a fellow Seattle Socialist Alternative organizer.[9]” - wikipedia

She is the Black Panther’s on steriods because she’s a ‘MeToo’ meets Karl Marks with daddy issues. Her home country is screwed up, so she decided to come here and screw ours up too, because she’s mad at her daddy who’s dead.

It is corrupt liberal Seattle vs this new righteous brand of teflon crusading Bernie-bots. Bellevue doesn’t have such issues, and neither does Renton or Tacoma for the most part.

Seattle? Hot mess^6.

Try and keep up. These exercise were known by the rocket man and Trump said weeks and weeks ago they would go on as scheduled. In a gesture of good faith Trump did stand down our strategic assets and not use them in these exercises.

Fat man was on with this at the time and it was he who agreed to denuclearization.

As for China, Russia and N Korea holding live exercises? Who cares? They pose no threat to us militarily and all of them know they would be entirely decimated should they be stupid enough to attack us.

Trump was right and legally able to toss the Iran agreement. As for those other examples you gave? They had nothing to do with Trump who, if you don’t know by now, is NOT a slime ball politician.

Agree. I wonder how much of this pushback by N. Korea is done by the military. I’d read that both parties had discussed the military exercise and agreed ok for this year.

John Bolten’s “Libya model” comment was not at all helpful. Kim most likely does not want to share Col. Qaddafi fate. Obama and Hillary have royally screwed things up.

Kim and his forebears have been jerking around politicians for decades; they love to keep the legislators on the hook. It’s a form of sport fishing to them, and they’re very, very good at it.

The upside is that he would be more appreciated with his people having full bellies.

A dictator rules because it benefits his top level supporters. If the top 15 or so NK generals stop getting paid, Kim is dead. A well fed and more prosperous population is rat poison to the top tier military in a dictatorship.

Showing willingness to walk away is a negotiation tactic .

Ofcourse, idiots on the left have never had to negotiate anything so they wouldn't know this.

(Chong)Either way, I like our response.

Agree .. response is good.

I AM KEEPING UP....since the ‘subject’ was Asians saving face, what would you expect them to do?

My response was what would OUR response be if shoe were on other foot.

If Kim were foolish enough to say “I had one more test in early June and I intend to stay on schedule”...

HOW do you think we would ‘handle’ that..

ALL in the matter of ‘saving face’.

Remember when we went into Iraq and didn’t find any WMD? Apparently we had BAD INTEl as if WE knew there were no WMDs, we surely would have found a ‘bunch’ of them.

Saving face, you know....

Women, and feminized men, love paperwork and controlling others, especially if they can prevent them from getting the job done.

Real men despise paperwork and just want to get the project completed.

It’s the Nork generals whose opinions count. Perhaps Kim is afraid of them.

No, actually, the only opinion that matters is that of Beijing. We need to stop thinking of North Korea as an independent nation. They're not. They are a puppet.
