Apparently they think they can save the U.S. democracy by destroying it, by setting themselves up as a de facto oligarchy, nullifying the election and seizing control of the government.
They have met their match in President Trump and the American people who are intelligent and honest enough to see what's going on.
Unlike Julius Caesar, Donald Trump has shown no interest whatsoever in establishing himself as an emperor; on the contrary, he has shown interest only in preserving democracy and rule by law.
The conspirators, on the other hand, have apparently attempted to seize control of the U.S. Government, subverting a Presidential Election and the rule of law.
Perhaps they have done so with the best of intentions, believing, in a state of hubris and denial, that their actions will save and not destroy the U.S. democracy and that President Trump, who is an outsider and conspicuously not a part of the Ruling Establishment, is a threat to it as he is a threat to the "Deep State." If so, they will feel the full force of tragedy when truth crashes their delusions. "The Road to Hell is paved with good intentions."

It has been true in all my life because I can't recall any politician of note who ever suffered prison time of any consequence other than Congressman Traficant, the one Scotty beamed up.
Even the House Bank or Post Office passed with little notice. I once asked my brother, a teamster trucker, if it bothered him that Jimmy Hoffa stole millions from the Teamsters. His answer was "I don't care how much he steals as long as I get mine." There you have it.
