Yeah, that was my impression as well.
Mainstream-enough publications have had opinion pieces with the belief that "reproductive rights" are So Sacred that no motive for an abortion--specifically, not even possible discrimination against girls!--should be banned.
The writers, Good Feminists all, may still criticize the motives, but abortions are So Important that they must proceed. (Remember the bumper stickers that said something like "if men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament"? The makers were projecting.)
This argument is not made very often, and it's probably not very politically palatable. It's still "logical" enough--if we start from very wrong premises.
