Green Activists Now Worried About Mountain of Toxic Waste from Their Solar Panels
Western Journal ^

Posted on 05/27/2018 8:36:10 AM PDT by bryan999

A leading activist has raised concerns over the ecological impact of solar panels — a renewable energy technology widely considered to be harmless to the environment.

Michael Shellenberger — the president of Environmental Progress, a nonprofit organization working to promote clean energy — detailed the real-life impacts of discarded solar installation.

Solar technology typically contains cadmium, lead and other toxic chemicals that can’t be extracted without taking apart the whole panel, resulting in entire solar panels being considered hazardous, Shellenberger noted in a Forbes article Wednesday.

Well hell ... no problem. Just dispose of them in landfills with all the CFL light bulbs containing mercury. Whatever could possibly go wrong with all of this.

Have you noticed that the same people who banned paper bags to save the rain forest now want to ban plastic bags to save the landfills?

"More of a political nightmare. Lift the prohibition on reprocessing and open the Yucca Mountain disposal site and 99% of the waste disposal problem is solved."

Bingo Bassmaner.

And undo the FUBAR that Jimma Carter created by stopping the reprocessing after listening to his daughter as he headed towards a SALT agreement.

Team Trump are you lurking here? Can you fix this too? It would be way too much winning!

“All those “toxins” are encapsulated and sealed from the environment as long as the panels are intact. The problems come when you start breaking them apart and break open that encapsulation. I suspect most of the panels will be “recycled” as whole units in the second-hand market.”

Just like the genius behind asbestos removal. Just leave it alone or else mesothelioma here we come.

You know this is amazing. Especially in aerospace and automotive and their processes, chemicals and materials within them, etc everything has to be so benign you could darn near test it on a bunny’s eye to prevent lawsuits later by employees and the cost of getting rid of the toxins, and the Solar Panel industry escaped this scrutiny?

Ban on shopping bags. I have to pay 5 cents a bag, but if I buy veggies or meat I can use all the produce bag I need without extra cost. You can get a a lot in a few produce bags.

“It was the leftists that DEMANDED we change to plastic bags to save trees even tough modern tree foresting/reforesting techniques were in place and mature.

“A few years later they are DEMANDING we NOT use plastic bags and instead promote disease by using contaminated reusable bags.

“The left doesn’t CARE about consequences. It just wants to virtue signal and then go to bed thinking “O What A Good Person I Am.” “

Repeating this because there’s no “Like” button.

When I was little, I heard the saying, "Look before you leap." I didn't know what I meant so my dad explained that I should THINK about the good and bad that could happen before I did something.

Liberals never do this. They always assume that there is nothing bad about their great ideas.

Leftists do this and then the cover up the bad things while praising the good.

Yep. We're about the only nuclear energy producer who doesn't reprocess, and the reasons for not doing so are outdated and technically incorrect. What remains after the process is a tiny fraction of what went in, and may be glassified (the French have been doing that for years) and tucked away - the only remaining issue is safe transportation of the waste. There are already enough spent fuel rods lying around in pools to justify the expense.

LOL LOL

Leftists have not yet learned ANYTHING!

This same scenario was seen when the time came to dispose of florescent light bulbs.

This is complrere bullshit. Over and over
99.9 % of all solar panels are m
Glass. Silicon. And silver
CIS and other non Si techs are insignificant
AND solar panels don’t break down
The Voyager 1 sent out in 1970 and waaaaaay out of our solar system
It’s still sending back pictures. 50 years later
Only because of the solar panels and batteries NASA put on it THEN
1970

Maybe they should just give up heat and electricity. That will solve everything.

Now that fully understand government corruption (lessons being taught since November of 2016) I suspect it goes something like this:

Pelosi/Schumer: We need to go to CFL lightbulbs, incandescent bulbs are killing “the children”. Don’t look into it, we already did - just follow our lead.

Idiot leftists: OK

Meanwhile, Pelosi/Schumer stuff their pockets with $$$$ from the CFL folks and the idiot leftists find out later that it wasn’t such a great idea. But given their devotion to their religion (Govt liberalism) they just see what their new marching orders are (also known as the next paycheck to DemocRat politicians)

Wash, rinse, repeat.

I’ve always thought the gov’t was corrupt, I just woefully underestimated the scope. Sharlyl Atkisson said the other day that we have uncovered about 2% of the corruption in the intel community. I’m still having trouble getting my head around how corrupt this county is ......

I'm surprised too... Like you it's worse than I thought it was.

batteries for battery powered cars. they are not electric unless they are dragging an extension cord behind them.

my kid’s toy car has a rechargeable battery. is it an electric car?

my flashlight has a rechargeable battery. is it an electric flashlight? it is if I plug it into a wall socket.

Do they have a circuit with voltage and amperage? Just because your voltage source is a battery instead of a motor at the far end of a power line, doesn't make them not electric.
