I’m no great fan of the WHO, but trans fats cause real problems.
They’re a frankenfood that should have never been recognized as safe. They’re extremely rare in nature and have never been a significant part of the diet for any species on the planet.
They’re structurally the same as saturated fats, but they’re not. They end up in cell membranes, taking the place of saturated fats, but don’t react chemically the way they should, causing any number of metabolic issues.
But I don’t think we’re likely to see much of a benefit from a ban because the manufacturers have developed new processes to turn cheap industrial seed oils into shelf-stable fats that don’t involve hydrogenation, but do create new types of far that have never existed in nature.
What could go wrong?
Correct!
It’s so much easier and healthier to just eat fresh food instead of the garbage that trans-fats are used in.
What many people do not know is that trans fat content in food that is less than 0.5 g per serving may be rounded down on the product ingredients label to zero.
If there is “partially hydrogenated” anything in the list of ingredients, then the item contains trans-fats.
Good points. I agree.
When people are starving, they aren’t going to care what they put in their mouths.
And that includes us.
Not to mention the obvious nanny-state issues with government regulating what we eat.
They usually replace them with interesterified fats which are even worse.
Fats go rancid fairly quickly. The industry needs stable fats, unfortunately this is done through manipulation of the chemical structure.
Just this morning I discovered that the FDA had banned PHO in the US as of a final ruling dated 2018 (the date for compliance has been extended through 2020).
Incredibly, I was ignorant of this fact. If you knew my background, you would grasp how incredible it is that I missed it. Additionally, I came across this post while searching to see if it had been posted to FR (since I obviously had no recollection of it here).
Your points are spot-on, but the hypocrisy of the FDA - in the wake of the virus jabs - is now on full display.
While researching the FDA decision, I came across this little gem:
“In the 2015 final order, we stated that food that is adulterated may be subject to seizure and distributors, manufacturers, and other parties responsible for such food may be subject to injunction.”
Many here read that passage and immediately envision armed FDA agents descending upon a food manufacturing facility for daring to use PHO in their food. We now have the example of the damage wrought by the FDA concerning the faux motivations over infant formula.
It’s tyrannical intimidation of the first order by a hypocritical federal bureaucracy which sees fit to look the other way while the population kills itself consuming sugar, carbs and seed oils...all the while promoting explosive growth in pharmaceutical poisoning, including the virus jabs.
Additionally, we have new insights into the true motivations of the WHO in the wake of the manufactured crisis named the ‘COVID-19 Pandemic.’
