Tommy Robinson case gag order on British media lifted in the face of worldwide protest

When Tommy Robinson was arrested for live streaming a report outside the Leeds courthouse where members of an alleged Muslim grooming gang that allegedly forced young British girls into prostitution, and the court quickly imposed a gag order on UK media reporting it, outrage (and an overseas legal defense fund) quickly followed. (See my writing about it here, here, and here.

In the words of Washington Post writer Avi Selk,

The gag order backfired, turning English Defense League founder Tommy Robinson into a sort of free-speech martyr to conservatives such as Donald Trump Jr. and Roseanne Barr before the gag order was lifted Tuesday.

Selk’s report, incidentally, drips with contempt toward Robinson, calling him “One of Britain’s most notorious anti-Muslim campaigners” (emphasis added)

Robinson wants to halt Muslim immigration and focuses on the crime statistics and on the violent jihad activity that have resulted from large scale Muslim immigration.

Selk presents the rationale for gagging reporting:

It’s illegal in Britain to report the details of some trials before they conclude — a long-standing law designed to prevent the news from biasing juries and causing prosecutions to collapse, according to Leeds Live.

The protest could be the UK’s Bundy Ranch moment.

What about the D Notice? I did see today that The Daily Telegraph had a blurb about it.

The average non-muslim british are really sick of this stuff. They know what is going on and they’ve had it. This could have been the catalyst to cause all mayhem to break loose, causing everyone to go to their gun chest and pull out the pointy steak knives.

Well good for this much. Now when are they going to release Robinson, a political prisoner in Great Britain?

Before the internet came along...the court could have shut down everything from the TV ‘mafia’ to the newspapers...using Article 10, which was created in 1998. But they never envisioned at that point, the power of the internet.

The Robinson episode reached out across the isle in less than two hours. You have forty-odd million people across the globe and beyond the control of Article 10. Whoever the judge is, or the prosecution team....they’ve created the necessary instrument to bring down the May government and probably force another election by early fall...all before BREXIT, and very likely to change the whole negotiation landscape.

I’m almost of the mind that this was intentionally set upon as a plan or strategy....to create the non-agreed upon BREXIT, and they just walk out the back-door.

The Guardian reports that Soros is going to back a new Brexit vote-just as the EU globalist tyrants have done in each and every country where thevote was anti-EU. Once they get the vote they want-in that famous phrase of the left-“the issue is settled”. Forever. What did Orwell say about tyranny and jackboots?

So my understanding is that the British can’t properly sequester their juries and don’t allow any reporting on certain trials or is it all trials during the duration?

Um, why?

We had Court TV here for years (I know it doesn’t exist anymore.) and TV cameras are allowed in many US jurisdictions though not the USSC (I also happen to agree with that one.).

However anyone with a cell phone asking someone coming out of the court house about the case could be arrested and jailed which is pretty much what happened, yes?

I was banned from a largely European forum over this case. Many of the posters were wishing bodily harm on Robinson in prison. They were outraged that I called them the same type of Europeans that would think nothing of throwing people in camps and executing their opposition in the 30’s and 40’s then after the war would cry that they were the “good Germans” when they were ultimately defeated.

I am amazed at how cowed Europe has become. We did them no favors by sheltering them under the nuclear umbrella when it comes to self-preservation.

There won’t be another vote in the UK. You can go around and ask folks. Pretty much everyone who voted to exit...would vote again to exit. From the stay-crowd...I think at least 2-percent of them have shifted and accept the leave idea.

I know the Tories keep hinting that they can come up with another vote, but that was all before the Tommy Robinson business. Presently, there’s open hostility at both the Tories and Labor.

Amen to that. It’s unbelievable that he is in prison, while British msm is complicit with British government to protect muslim rapists and pedophiles. Going back years.

prevent the news from biasing juries and causing prosecutions to collapse

Right, that's why the Founding Fathers found it appropriate to make that exception and allowance for gag orders in the Constitution, too.... whut? no?

You're telling me that people's exposure to the truth makes a difference and that it should always be allowed? What a concept!   (See my tag line.)

Although the British media can report on Tommy, they still can’t report on the muslim rape gang trial.
