So you are saying east austins demographics are not because of the choices people are making....
Helluva lot of sterile people there then. If its financial, that shouldnt stop them, it doesnt stop poorer people. People make time and room and sacrifices for the things that are a top priority for them. They find a way. They make a way.
That is why I say, if these people are choosing pets over kids, for them, maybe that is the right choice. Your assumptions are no better than mine but the context of the replies here are negative towrds these people not having kids. I say maybe its better they don’t. Maybe that isnt what they’d be good at because they dont seem to want it or have decided for whtver reasons, not to do it. People who want something very badly, usually make it happen.
I’m not assuming anything. I allow that some people chose not to and others can’t. But economics and tax policy adversely affect families with kids.
And as for usually making it happen...I’d rather prospective patents have more good options and fewer bad ones. Changes in tax policy would go some way to doing that.
If a Nork EMP weapon fries the grid I am headed to Austin.
Austin may also have a San Fransicko type problem: families with kids are more likely to leave, and families with kids are less likely to want to move there. I’m also curious on the age breakdown of the couples. If Austin is indeed drawing couples who are childless by choice, which doesn’t include older couples with kids out of the nest, I’d suggest Austin might want to ask itself why that is and is it healthy?
“Btw, it’s the leftist infiltrating government at all levels who want higher and higher taxes, to pad their incomes, their gold plated retirements, etc.”
That’s a fact. Maybe if so-called conservatives got off their fat asses and attended a city council meeting to object to high property taxes than taxes wouldn’t be so high. Oh, I forgot. Conservatives are busy working, remodeling the kitchen and worshipping Mammon.
Tax policies go against single people and people without kids too.
Single people get less deductions and limits than married couples.
And people with kids get extra tax deductions per child that those without kids dont.
Those without kids still pay ever increasing school taxes even though they have no kids attending,
Seniors I dont mind getting property tax breaks because personally i believe property taxes are just the state stealing the value of peoples property, incrementally. And those old, folks have paid that property tax out and the state has taken more money from their house than anyone else.
Tax policy everywhere is pretty screwed up. Some states and localities worse than others, but the ultimate NO people, still have is to move to a better place, if you cant change it.
My property taxes are about $6K per year in a small PA suberb. They used to be $12K per year in a nicer house in a Philadelphia superb. Back when I had more money than brains. I didnt get smarter, just got poorer :-).
That is exactly what is killing NJ; it isn’t just people running out of patience, but employers as well (they shoulder plenty of the property tax burden). When these municipalities offer tax incentives to companies to move in or stay, they screw the people even more.
Municipalities LOVE childless residents, since school taxes are about 75% of property taxes. Childless residents cost towns/cities the least, and usually have more discretionary income to spread around.
