Blue Wave Check: Cruz Now Up Double Digits Over Beto In Quinnipiac
Hot Air ^ | 31 May 2018 | Ed Morrisey

The big blue wave may have already crested, according to numbers coming out of Texas today in a US Senate race that has attracted a lot of media attention. Democrat Beto O’Rourke has been boosted as the kind of Democrat who can compete in deep-red states like Texas in his challenge to incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz. And for a while, that looked like it might be true; an early April poll from Quinnipiac had the race within the margin of error.

So what happened? Quinnipiac cites a “nationwide Republican mini-move” over the last few weeks, thanks in part to an improvement in Donald Trump’s performance rating. He went from 43/52 in April to 47/47 now, which certainly looks as if it has lifted all boats in Texas. Cruz has also improved his job approval rating, which stands at 52/39 after an eyebrow-raising 47/45 in April. That improved standing has perhaps shown up mostly among independent voters. In early April, he trailed 37/51, but today the split among indies as 41/43, a virtual tie.

Incumbents usually need to get to 50% to feel secure in their re-election bids. The fact that it’s still an issue for Cruz in deep-red Texas suggests that more work needs to be done, but Republicans appear to be gaining momentum across the board. Greg Abbott is running for re-election as governor, and his lead over Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez went from 49/40 in April to 53/34. Abbott is now leading in most demos, including among women (48/40) against a female candidate.

It’s obvious the whole “blue wave” thing was a scam to keep the MSM-Democrats from sinking into total despair, jumping ship, jumping off the bridge, whatever.

And the MSM was right there, doing its all for the home team. Total joke.

They have zero credibility.

Obama’s total strength was from the “first Black President” thing; he’s a single guy who took all the energy out of that moment, just like OJ Simpson walked off with all the goodies of the “Black men are railroaded by the court system” thing.

In addition to that, Beto comes across as a smarmy wanker. Also, he looks like a textbook Beta - the dude aspires to be big enough to wear skinny jeans. Add to that the fact that he is the product of a corrupt family, and is your average Progressive.

Lupe the Laughingstock may not be much help to Beto either, but TX Democrats already consider Beto as good as elected. And a few even think Lupe can unseat Governor Abbott.

KEY POINTS IN THIS ARTICLE

— Both Democrats and Republicans have about equal odds of winning the House majority.

— Republicans remain clearly favored in the battle for Senate control.

— Democrats should start 2019 with at least a few more net governorships than they hold now.

The left abhors “cultural appropriation” yet will vote for the appropriated “Beto” phony.

And the MSM was right there, doing its all for the home team. Total joke.

The disturbing thing for me was that so many FReepers—even after the incontrovertible evidence of the 2016 election of President Trump—once again fell hook, line, and sinker for the MSM propaganda.

Many of them are probably reading this very thread. I can recall going back and forth several times with some female FReeper who was absolutely convinced about this utterly imaginary "Blue Wave". She simply couldn't be talked from the edge of the cliff.

Sadly, when conservatives become so deluded, and spread their sincere fears around, such things can have a tangible effect on morale. Therefore, hand-wringing and despair—even if you sincerely feel that way—should be assiduously avoided in public at all costs.

The Propaganda Media knows this, and they adjust their continuous "gaslighting" accordingly. Now that the truth is out, instead of motivating voters on the Left by blowing sunshine—which obviously hasn't worked well—they will switch to fear and terror. We can see it happening as I write this...

Polls aren’t accurate when it comes to predicting actual numbers, as we saw in Nov. 2016. They do track trends pretty well. There never was a “blue wave”. If the Pubs weren’t so feckless they would pick up seats in both the House and Senate. In any case I would lay money down that Nancy Pelosi will not be speaker next Jan. and the GOP will pick up several Senate seats.

You really can't make any predictions elsewhere in the country based on state-wide elections in Texas.

Here's a list of all the democrats that hold statewide office in Texas

"So what happened?"

Beto was never competitive with Cruz in the first place - it was just lying Dem-financed polling.

Here's your "blue wave":
