The decision to relocate to the Mandate of Palestine had many roots, but was in some senses reckless. A people whose future consists of perpetual war may eventually tire of it.
My own opinion is that the Jews of Israel who survive the first successful attack are going to wind up being relocated (again) and that it would be wise to have a contingency plan in place to accomplish this with as few losses as possible.

No. It was payment to the Jews for material services rendered to the British Empire in assisting it to destroy the Ottoman Empire, with the blessings of the Arab sheikhs who also joined in the endeavor. “King” Hussein did not get the Syrian Monarchy, but the throne of TransJordan instead, and elements within the British military stoked anti-Semitism in the Mandate with the help of Haj Amin ElHusseini, and things fell apart from there, there were uprisings, revolts and strife going back and forth, until 1948, when Ben Gurion declared a Jewish state. I don't know of anything of particular importance in Jewish history which happened in 1018. Robert II was King of France, Henry II was ruler of Germany, and Canute was King of England. Maybe Canute promised to give the Holy Land to the Jews if God would stop the tide from coming in.
