Houston-based hedge fund manager John Arnold and his wife, Laura, plan to spend $20 million over the next five years to fund gun violence research. The couple's private foundation, The Laura and John Arnold Foundation, will also seek to raise an additional $30 million for a grant they're calling the National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research, bringing the total grant amount to $50 million, Forbes reported.
Mrs. Arnold made her and her husband's plans known during a speaking engagement at Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy on Wednesday:
Ninety-six people are killed by guns in the U.S. every day. More people have been killed in schools than in military deployment so far in 2018. While I was writing my remarks for today, 40 miles away from Houston another school shooting started.
I don’t want to live in a country where children worry about the whether they will be shot at school. It’s a critical time for philanthropy to step in and catalyze the government to act. To cut through the politics with data.

That’s pretty stupid, especially considering how violent guns actually are not.
Perhaps they should research people violence instead, especially considering that violence is a characteristic of people, and not inanimate objects.
Apparently, just because you’re able to amass a fortune doesn’t make you really, really smart about everything.
or with that kind of money they could homeschool- hire a teacher.
The study has already been done- more people are stomped, punched or knifed to death than are shot. At they going to demand ‘sensible hand and foot control laws’ too?
There is no such thing as gun violence. There are some people who sometimes are violent. The primary “triggers” of this violence are well known, don’t require much research. Start by eliminating or at least repatriating Islam, a “total immersion” training program for hate and violence. Then reduce psychoactive prescription drugs, especially in children, to only cases which need them. Those two improvements will cut violence by more than all the talk, unconstitutional fake “laws” and research
Whoever *funds* research has a big say in the results of said *research*.
Gun violence has been researched to death; the left tries to get results that will justify banning guns, while the right has the research to justify the 2nd Amendment.
Seems a filthy rich couple like this would look around at the millions who don’t have health insurance, can’t afford their medications, can’t afford nutricious food, or some other worthy cause to sponsor.
They can spend all their billions, but the 2nd is still the 2nd, and WE, THE PEOPLE are far from allowing that to be taken away.
If the 2nd Amendment goes, ALL OF OUR RIGHTS go with it.
That’s what’s wrong with the rich, all of their needs are satisfied, so they have to look around for someone else’s lives to meddle in for their entertainment and ego gratification.
I’m going to apply for a $20,000,000.00 grant from them. I’ll do extensive research on all the scary guns for them. Of course I’ll need to purchase a bunch of them along with sufficient ammunition to lay down lots of solid baseline data.
I’ll need a private state of the art shooting range, too. Just to ensure that my data isn’t corrupted in any way. I figure it’ll take 5 years to complete the initial study, another 3 to confirm it all, and then 2 years to write up the findings.

You can bet that the Arnolds live in a posh, gated community and are guarded 24/7 by someone with a gun.
Sad they can’t do something constructive with that kind of money. You know, like helping rebuild Puerto Rico which Trump had destroyed by directing a hurricane there. Kind of the same way the clintoons did with Haiti. Wonderful place now. Oh, it’s not all rebuilt? Hmmmmm
If you’re clever enough, you could probably pull off something like that. Just don’t shoot yourself in the foot. ;-)
But toeliminate orcat least repatriate Islam, the commies and aclu and al CAIR will have to be shut down. And to get dangerous prescriptions cut back, we’ll need to overcome Big Pharma, the far- leftist- run AMA, and teachers Union opposition.
How many violent crimes are stopped each day by a gun? 6,800
That is the trade off. If we as a nation ban guns, we are accepting 6,800 MORE assaults, rapes, beatings, car jacking, etc.
96 vs 6,800
That is NOT a trade that I am willing to make Especially when 62 of that 96 number are suicides. So the real number is 32 deaths vs 6,800 violent crimes.
Or how many people in the United States and Canada die from beatings or stabbings related to domestic incidents. Therefore, why not improve domestic intervention initiatives and kids/women’s crisis centres with that money regardless of the weapon used in order to reduce or eliminate all family violence with that money?
Maybe a wealth tax for those over a billion is not such a bad idea.
They always seem to use their excess funds against US.
I suppose it takes millions to only find gun violence that underscores the results you set out to find.

Reminds me of an old joke.
A French, German and Polish scientist were all given the task of researching why the head of the penis is bigger than the shaft.
Away they went and finally they came back to report their research budgets and results.
The German scientist reported that he spent $3 million Euros and determined the head of the penis was bigger than the shaft to ensure the man gets pleasure during intercourse
The French scientist then got up and said he disagreed with his German colleague. He said he had spent $5 million Euros and had determined the head was bigger than the shaft so that women get pleasure during intercourse.
The Polish scientist got up, went to the podium and said he disagreed with both his colleagues. He said he only spent about 10 Euros and determined the head was bigger than the shaft so that his hand wouldn’t slide off . . .
