Check out this series of videos of the eruption and rescue work. This is no laughing matter for the poor folks affected, burned, and killed by this event. There is talk of two streams of lava, but in one place a number of bodies are scattered on the ground and my guess is they died from a pyroclastic flow (flujo plastico as they are saying in Spanish). Both you tube sites have very dramatic footage from a number of angles. Many rescue workers, others fleeing as hot clouds roll down.

And here is some English language reporting on the tragedy. The Spanish youtube in my previous comment is more detailed.

Great Hispanic artists and poets like COMMUNISTS Pablo Neruda and Pablo Picasso.

Pyroclastic flows are a nasty business ... huge, fast, and lethal. Ask the residents of Pompeii. Most of them are still there (buried in ash).

I love those documentaries on Pompeii - The site has fascinated me since I was a child.

A few months ago, I came across these on Youtube: 4K Walking tours throughout the city. It's almost like being there. Enjoy!

Pompeii Walking Tours in 4K

And they are not just Pompeii but almost any place you can think of. I think these are great resources for elderly or just letting run in the background while you are reading or something.

"Volcano of Fire.....how imaginative those early Spaniards must have been"

Yes...names that evoke beauty...Lik Boca Raton, FL. Or better yet, look up the etymology of Montego, Jamaica!

You are thinking of Herculaneum, not Pompeii. Pompei was destroyed by rock and ash primarily.

I was around the area where Volcan de Fugeo is. Quite beautiful as there is a chain of three volcanoes.

A volcanic eruption like this is no laughing matter. I am praying for all those whose lives are altered forever. Some have died or been injured. Others have lost loved ones. Many others have lost whatever they had in the way of material possessions. I am sad for the people living there.

“The Volcan de Fuego, Spanish for “volcano of fire,” exploded in a hail of ash and molten rock”, wiping out decades of progress on man made climate change.

“Was this preceded by earthquakes?”

Yes. I think they were fours.

Below is the link to last night’s earthquake forecast by Dutchsinse which is titled “6/03/2018 — Global Earthquake Forecast — MAJOR UNREST taking place — Volcanism increase- BE READY”

He’s also pointing out unusual earthquake activity off the southeast coast of Africa near a volcano which hasn’t erupted for 5000 years.

Mrs. BN & I flew out of Guatemala City this past Wednesday. The friend who drove us to the airport told us to “Look for the volcano after take-off. It’s the most active in Central America. Sometimes we can see it from the hotel at night!”

Our co-worker flew out Sunday at 8 am. The volcano blew just before noon, wiping out a village and closing the airport.

The mission we spent time with, located about 100 miles to the east, is getting ash fall.
